Wow. Were that all of us, whether young or old, could have our heads on as straight as Mr. Mann.
I especially like this statement:
Shaving my head for the first time was uniquely cathartic. The action simultaneously removed a source of sadness and put that same source front and center. It re-contextualized my hair loss, in a context that I chose. I set the terms, and in that I felt empowered. Instead of strategic haircuts, hairstyles and hats to make me look less bald, I thrust honesty upon myself, and in turn, those who saw me.
good article. thanks for sharing. I was 15 years older than him when I started losing my hair. I wish I could say I accepted it as gracefully
Great article. It should be a "must-read" for guys who are starting to lose their hair... or at least contemplating what to do about it.
He says many of the things we say on here, but his word choices are so much better and he packs a lot of though into a little bit of writing...... and at a young age to even have it all worked out so well.
Thanks for sharing this article, Stasiu!
I agree. Everyone losing their hair should read this.
"I set the terms, and in that I felt empowered." I love this - a big FU to hair loss.
And this:
"This means I’m hardly ever recognized by former classmates. Anonymity is a beautiful thing."
A great article - short, sweet and right to the point.
Nice find, Stasiu; thanks for sharing!
Nice find. Definitely should be a must read for anyone struggling with hair loss and contemplating the decision to shave it all off.
