Howdy Gents! Hope you all are having a good Holiday. I'm wondering if anyone out there uses shaving oil (ie: Shave Secret, Pacific Shaving) with their DE or SE. I had a nasty accident with my DE, however I don't want to give it up just yet. I'm thinking about using the oil as a possibility. Can any of you guys help a fellow Sly out? Thanks!

I use a shave oil, it helps the de glide easier, remember not to put any pressure on the razor, let its weight do all the work

I typically don't use preshave oil.
However, there are instances where I do find it helpful. If I have razor burn, wind burn, or if my upper lip is irritated from tissues during cold or allergy season, then I find that a light coating of oil before lathering helpful in preventing further irritation.

I use pre-shave oil and wouldn't shave without it. Contrary to popular belief, it's the moisturizing properties of the oil which protect your skin more so than the lubrication. The more moist and supple your skin the harder it is to cut, when paired with proper technique of course. Definitely give it a try, but make sure you use one with natural ingredients and no alcohol. I've used a couple and my favorite remains Art of Shaving's unscented pre-shave oil. I've used Pacific's but it felt too light for me; though it should be noted that I have very dry skin.

I've never felt the need for it, personally.
What kind of soap or cream are you using? i find that if my lather is good enough then no other lubrication or protection is needed, although I know that everybody's skin is different (ie YMMV!)

I always drop a few drops of Shave Secret in my Shaving Soap or Headslick (To me, adding Shave Secret to my shaving soap is like adding my favorite seasoning to my favorite food
). Anyway, DC, next time you use your DE on your head, I always add a few drops of baby oil on the blade before using...It helps avoid the pulling and nicking you might have experienced. Good luck!

Hi Joe: Hope all is well with you and your family. I did not know you use a DE razor. You should participate in the SAFETY RAZOR SOTD when you are able. So. . . what is your DE razor of choice?

Sir Harry, I just bought (or rather, ordered) some Shave Secret. So, just to clarify, do you mix the oil with your headslick in a mug or something, or do you apply the oil to your dome before the cream/soap?

Yes very curious about this question also. Have never tried pre-shaded oil but I think I will order some.

Dan and Roger, I personally drop 4-6 drops of Shave Secret in the scuttle first, and then I add one capful of Head Slick and then mix it up with a wet brush (hot water preferably). On the other hand, when I use shaving soap, I dip the wet brush in the soap and then mix the soapy brush into the scuttle with the 4-6 drops of Shave Secret. The best thing about Shave Secret and Headslick is if used properly and in small amounts, a bottle of each can last an everyday shaver about three to four months, and longer for those who don't shave everyday. Shave Secret can be used alone by spreading it on your hand and rubbing it on your scalp, but I wouldn't recommend it personally. Hope this helps, guys.

Thank you very much for the information. I am going to order some of that shave secret. Haven't looked yet but I assume you can buy it at most of the online shaving stores.

I use Roosters Shave Oil. I apply a generous amount to my face and head, let it sit for a few minutes and then shave. It's a little difficult to hold on to the razor, but I'll never use cream again as long as there is oil! Shave Secret says it only takes 3 drops applied directly to ur face. The only way 3 drops will work is if u are shaving a baby's face...lol!

Guys, a bottle of Shave Secret is available at most WalMarts for about $3.85 per bottle.
