Things That People Say

What are some recent things that people have said to you regarding your Sly head?
My most recent is not one of the better ones, but it made me think of posting it:
I was checking out at Target and the coupon that printed out right before the receipt made the cashier say, "I guess you won't be needing this." It was a coupon for hair dye. I laughed and said, "My wife might want it." (It was for women anyway). I think she felt it gave her the perfect segue to bring up my Sly head! haha. No, she was not good looking, so I didn't offer her a go at it....lol.

Now that I have let my beard grow out, no one comments about my sly head. All of the comments are on my beard.
I do wonder how much info Target and other retailers keep on us for those ads. When we pay by debit or credit card, they have a record of our buying history and target the ads to us. When paying by cash, they only have the items on the current transaction.

I paid by debit, which is a joint account with my wife, so maybe they had history of her buying it before. That is pretty cool. I seems like the coupons they used to print were things we would never want... maybe they got smarter.

The supermarket near my house always has some product at the register that the cashier has to offer for a special sale price. I love it when it is a shampoo or conditioner since the cashiers usually do not really pay attention to the customer they are checking out, and will make the offer without thinking.
I tend to cock my eyebrow and stare at them with an "are you serious?" expression. It is then that the cashiers look up and see me. They look embarrassed for a moment, but I say something like, "Not just yet," and we share a smile.

Sitting in a local pub 2 days ago, some guys were talking about someone with a flattop, and one guy said he hated going bald. Then he looked at me and said "no offense". I told them no problem, I'm not bald, and I had a flattop 3 days ago. He asked why I shaved my head, I said because I liked it.

lol.
Like the guy at the bar, I too hated going bald.... but I do like being bald.
reddog, you pull either look off well. I think your white goatee helps make you a great example of either look.

You probably don't even want to know how much data companies track about their customers these days. And they share data with other companies and social media sites to build VERY detailed profiles. The more advanced data mining even keeps track of your social circles and family members. For example, Linked-in uses such information to send emails trying to get new members to sign up that appear to come from actual acquaintances. I've even seen people get such emails who don't have social networking (Facebook, twitter, etc) accounts.
Anyway, here's an article that gives you a rough idea of how thorough and accurate modern data mining can be.

Maltz, I was just telling the people at Safeway about that Target incident that last night when we got into the coupons they were offering. That story is crazy!
I also second what Koz said about Schro.

At a work agency interview recently, I was referred to as the young bald guy. I was the only bald guy in the room of about 30 candidates..... I didn't mind. as the young receptionist had no idea of my real age (48) & I took it as a real compliment.
Another of the candidates referred to me as a a "neo-nazi skinhead", but I didn't take offence as the guy was young and didn't really know what he was talking about.
When I told the interviewer my date of birth, they said I looked at least 10 - 15 years younger. Made me feel really great!

Before shaving my head, I kept it buzzed. I work in a department store, and my sister wanted me to pick up a hair dryer for her. Upon taking it through security, the guard gave me a funny look. I responded jokingly about how much trouble I go through styling my hair.

i once had a woman at the mall make a comment about my hair? I stopped and asked "really"? It made me feel good because it was something hitting on me; great thread here

The popular phrase, "then I'll get out your hair," used to get me. But, I've learned before the awkwardness ensues to retort, "I don't have any, so ....." I always get a laugh.
