The two weeks I spent up there in Camp Robinson was very rewarding...When we got downtime, I got to check out Downtown Little Rock and got to see the Clinton Library, ride the cable cars and check out a few other attractions. May take a weekend trip up there next spring just for the fun of it.

I would just like to say thank you to all of the nice folks that took the time to respond. I asked my wife if she thought I should grow it out or what, and she thinks I should leave it alone for now. I'm kind of glad because I don't think I could take growing it out because I have one side that recedes more than the other and it would be a while before it looked right. I still kind of have the urge to go shorter but I guess I'll be happy for the time being. I know I can't really offer others advice until I take charge of my own situation, but maybe I can hang around for support and other discussions. This really is a great community and any other advice is still welcome. Thanks guys

Nonsense, you can offer advice if you have some.  Not everyone here is bald, and no one required to be.  I think you've taken care of your issues just fine for now.

If you don't want to shave it all off yet, maybe you should try leaving it as it is on top, but shaving the sides and back even tighter. 

The "horseshoe" might not be as pronounced, because there would be the illusion that the back and sides weren't as thick.

Just a thought.  As it stands, you look like you can still "get away with it" for a while, yet.

I started shaving when the top of my head started looking like the picture you posted. Sometimes we really need someone to tell us when it is time -- and most people are reluctant to offer unsolicited advice  of this nature.  But somebody has to do it, so I'm going to tell you that it's time. 

When you look in the mirror you still see a face framed by hair but you know it is thinning out and will only get worse.  Take a little more time if you need to but don't let it go too long because someday in the not too distant future you are going to look back and wish you'd acted on it sooner.  The anticipation of the deed is far more traumatic than actually doing it.  Postponing the inevitable only prolongs the agony.

I really wish that somebody had said something like this to me about 10 years ago.  Good luck.

Thanks Razor X.  I always like your post because you are blunt and to the point. I really wish I felt comfortable enough to just get it over with but I don't. I don't know how long it will take but I feel like I'm finally get used to the buzzed look. I think that photo is about the worst at that angle under bright light. I know I'm trying to justify my own reasoning but I guess that's just human nature. I probably will go shorter and shorter until its gone but I think y'all have helped me accept it is what it is.

Country, I know this is still your introductory thread, but I just wanted to add a suggestion if you are still having trouble with your scalp. Washing your scalp every few days with Noxzema or Sea Breeze may help clear the pores and may stop your scalp from itching so much. It may not work for everyone, but when I had surgeries on my scalp in late 2011 and early 2012, I used these items and it stopped the itching (not to mention it smelled great). Just a suggestion.

I know your feelings, I had done a very similar course, going tighter and tighter. I also had VERY flaky scalp and it would itch - maybe not as much as yours but still... and yes, you'd see the flakes drift down after scratching it. After I went smooth both issues vanished. Once in a while I will get a little itch here and there, but rarely and certainly not as much as before.

In time, I imagine you'll get comfortable with the idea of going sly. It's not a huge leap when you've been consistently short. When you go shorter and shorter, the transition becomes less and less 'shocking'.

Something like Sea Breeze may help, or even an application/use of Witch Hazel may work too. Good luck and hopefully you'll keep posting. Your advice and knowledge is just as valuable - sly or not - to others experiencing the same feelings and concerns.
