Last night Bella and I had our wedding reception/party and it was GREAT.

Due to legal complications - thank you great SLOW state of New York - we are not "legally" married but we are as far as we're concerned and we'll do the legals in due time.
It would be nice if the US government could get their act together so we can cross the border easily and access the US consulate. Regardless of your political views, those of you living in the US MUST be tired of the inane shenanigans of your congress

Our system, here in Canada is an ugly, creaky old relic of feudal times but at least it works - mostly

Congratulations!
I could say a lot of things about the U.S. government but none of it's good right now. I won't go there.

Congrats to you and Bella.
No politics for me either. Too touchy and against Forum policy.
You can see my thoughts on the current US political situation on my FB page if you even care!!!

Congrats to both of you!
I don't know how I didn't notice this before, since I always notice anything Canadian since I moved to the US.
I'm originally from a smaller town near Niagara Falls, Ontario. You in the Niagara Region Bella? Have you made your trip to Montreal yet? Apparently only 2 places you can go for your visa interview are Montreal and Vancouver. It's awesome. Was a 6 hour drive for me, 3 hours waiting in those hard plastic chairs, and 3 minutes for the interview. Gotta love bureaucracy.
I've gone through the immigration process so I know how you're feeling. Patience is not just a virtue, it's the law.
It's a real downer being told when you can celebrate such an important step in life like getting married. My wife and I also had our reception before our nuptials. It was the one thing we could plan ahead of time so we did.

I do have a great immigration lawyer and the law seems to have changed so that I can do my interviews in Toronto, which is where we are.
The major hold up is the US court system - even though my ex husband and I have been (amicably, fwiw) separated for 2 years and have no joint property, debts or children, to finalize the divorce I have to travel to the us proper or the consulate because Canadian notaries aren't considered valid (fair enough I guess but it's a pain because the papers have gone through now 3 iterations).
Then once we get all the papers notarized a Jude won't see it for 5 months... Current waiting time in the county where we filed. Arrrrrrgh

Oh well at least we're happy if not legal just yet

Ahhh I see now. Entirely different situation. My bad.
Hope it all goes well for you both.
You know, if you and your ex hadn't filed together there is a quicker way that requires an ad in the local paper and you ignoring it...... but that's out of the question at this point.
