I'd been on the fence about shaving the head for a while. Started with just going as close as the clippers would go and did this for a year or so, but wanted more (or less?).
So I finally took the plunge and went right down to the wood. Lovin it. Only problem is I need to do it every day to keep it smooth. I took the simple step of buying an anti-fog mirror for the shower and that's been a blessing.
An old friend of mine used to wax, but I'm no longer able to contact him for input. Has anyone here tried it out? Pros? Cons? -

Welcome! While waxing is an alternative to everyday shaving, and could give you a smoother head longer; it could lead to possible discolorations on your scalp. Further, the hairs in some areas are thicker than others which could lead to possible patching. I would strongly advise against waxing, but if you want to be bald permanently and have some bucks to spend, laser treatments could be a better option.

This. Also, waxing is also unbelievably painful (had body waxing done once before....once).

Yep. My wife once challenged me to wax my head if I wanted to get a clue as to what women go through for beauty.
Not only did I not accept her offer, I quickly informed her that I had no desire to find out about childbirth either.
I actually enjoy shaving each morning. -

I'm uncomfortable with comments that question other's masculinity. I think being born male makes us real men. I don't wax myself, but I think if anyone here does, it would not make him any less real or any less of a man.

I believe he was just giving a hard time. I don't actually think he believes that. If you want to wax your entire body, go for it, but it's not pleasant! -

Thus the smiley after the comment. It was tongue in cheek. I really don't care if a guy waxes or not... none of my business.

I'm going to agree with the guys, and like Cave, I actually enjoy shaving the dome. I just don't get some of you who wish to completely remove all hair from your head, whether it be by waxing or laser. In fact, there is a lengthy thread on this in on of the other sections.
Now as far as body hair, I'm all for removal of it, especially back hair. Something is definitely not right when you have more hair on your back than your head, lol.

The pain isn't an issue for me. I know that sounds like a macho comment, but it's not meant to be. For 30 days of hair free I'd go through the pain.
What has me scared more is the other stuff. Patching if I ever decide to grow hair? Color patches on the skin? Hmmm lemme think about this a minute....no thanks.
Unlike many of you, I actually despise the act of shaving. Whether it be the face, head or anything else. To me it's just something else I gotta do to get ready in the morning. Don't get me wrong. I admire the fact that you can take such pleasure in such a simple thing. It's just not me. Hence my looking for a more semi-permanent solution. But I don't want totally permanent. Thankfully I'm not a hairy guy overall.
I think for now I'll stick with the shaving.
And I have to add, Cave Dwellers comments were so opposite of his nickname choice it made me laugh. Not in an offensive way mind you, just odd.
And Koz. Careful, you'll make me cry

Hey, I laugh at myself most of the time. So does my wife for that matter. If you want to laugh as well, it is fine by me, sir, and welcome to my club.
Seriously, though, if waxing does not eventually result in permanent baldness (which some guys want) it probably will at least result in a permanently downy, fine hair. The roots just cannot take getting that kind of stress for very long
I initially started growing a beard in college because I naively thought it would mean I would not have to shave. Then I discovered how much the hair on my throat grew each day. -

Oops. Sorry bout that Cave. I attributed the wrong name to the comment I was referring to!! My bad. And I agree with you on the childbirth thing. That is definitely an experience that women can keep all for themselves.
I was referring to the comment by Marshalartist.
