sand paper dome
« on: September 19, 2013, 11:43:39 AM »
Hey guys how long does it take for the sandpaper dome to get more smoother? Ive been bald going on a month now and shave every other day. The only time its smooth is after I shave. Will my head get used to the bald head?

Sorry, but the only way to get rid of the sandpaper effect is to get rid of the day's worth of stubble growing up there.

In other words, you have to shave it off.

I can shave completely smooth in the morning and have sandpaper before I get off work. It took about two months of daily shaving to get my scalp to toughen up.

The longevity of your shave will improve as you continue to shave, the best way to get a lasting shave is to get a nice close shave. What are you currently shaving with?

I get stubble by bedtime, sadly not all over my head but in certain places and that's why I prefer to shave daily

You could do what this guy did,

http://www2.slybaldguys.com/smf/index.php?topic=22618.msg321801;topicseen#msg321801

Pluck out all of your hair.  Not sure I'm ready to do that.  But he seemed to have nice results. Guess his process is like getting a tattoo. Be certain you want to be bald for life, as this would be permanent.

Otherwise, yes, I'm sand paper in a few hours.  But sure enjoy the first few when it is very smooth!

Fondle the dome just post-shave and enjoy the slickness of the moment.  Then keep your hands off it until you shave it the next time, cherishing all the while the memory of smooth.  Biology cannot be gainsaid. Since head hair grows at about 4 nanometers a second (Well, Ming's does; he's made the calculation), it won't be too many seconds--say 50,000 or so--before there's enough for the questing, hopeful hand to start rasping over.  Razorwork will be perpetual for any seeker of glabrous tactility.

I don't have a clue what Ming is talking about.

I just know I enjoy the smooth head right after the shave. And it's nice to remember that feeling all day long.

Oh, to have the vocabulary...

Razorwork will be perpetual for any seeker of glabrous tactility.

That is destined to become a classic statement for this board.

I want to see it on a fortune cookie.

Hi Lo:  The only way to get rid of the "sandpaper" feel is if all your hair naturally falls out.  As a head shaver... the "sandpaper" feel will eventually appear.  However. . . as a head shaver who shaves with a DE and SE razor I stay smoother longer.  Before. . . I discovered DE and SE razors I used to shave with the Gillette Fusion and Hydro5 but since I discovered DE and SE razors I have not looked back since.

Check out the SAFETY RAZOR SECTION of the forum.  We have a handful of our fellow SBG brothers who shave the traditional way.  If you want to know more about it. . . visit www.badgerandblade.com.

I have to admit that I don't mind the sandpaper feel.  I enjoy the smooth when it is smooth and the rough when it is rough.

I'm not a fan of the sandpaper feel. Sometimes I use the electric shaver in the morning, then use the headblade when I shower in the late afternoon.

I can abide the 'sandpaper' but not very long. I prefer the smooth skin.

I can get about 12-14 hours of 'relative smoothness' (I often shave at night before going to watch TV/read and then drift off to sleep) and I imagine, like everything else, the body slows the production of hair down. Maybe that's just my imagination. ;D

Razoring will cut the stubble down beautifully. Just take your time and slick it off. I've been doing this for about 45 days now and it just feels out-of-this-world to be smooth. I feel it makes me more aerodynamic as well...  :*))

What's a good DE to use? Still getting familiar with these razors and shaving products. I dont mind the sandpaper feel it just seems like literally the same day it can be felt but o well I'll just shave daily
