Adjustable razor recommendations?
« on: September 11, 2013, 09:35:29 PM »
I have a Merkur Futur but it's too bulky to get the areas under my nose efficiently. I also have an Edwin Jagger 89. What I'd like is something as sleek as the EJ89 but with the functionality of the Futur. Any recommendations?
Thanks in advance.
Nate.

I only have one adjustable DE, which is the Merkur Progress.  It works great but I don't use it much because i'm forever changing razor.

I also have a schick adjustable injector, which is just fantastic.  If you've never used an Injector you owe it to yourself to try some, and the M type adjustable is fantastic.  Blades last much longer than DE blades, too.

Hi Nate:  I'm with Brian in that I would go with the Merkur Progress.  I get some great shaves with mine.  It is not as aggressive as the Futur but shaves great.

Also... I would not leave out any vintage razors.  A Gillette Fatboy or Gillette Super Adjustable aka Black Beauty razors are awesome too.  Keep us posted.

Just pulled the trigger on the progress, I'll post my opinion on it once I get to use it. I paid $70 on eBay, pretty sweet deal.

Did you try it out yet?

I dug mine out today after 5 days without shaving.  Glorious shave!

I'm still waiting for it to arrive in the mail. Once it gets here, I'll give that bad boy a spin.

Just got it today, I'll be testing this bad boy out in the morning.
Update:
Started using it today, it's a lot easier to use than the Futur (or at least it's able to get in closer under the nose).

Kindly post up your Progress SOTD in the SAFETY RAZOR SOTD Section.  We can always use some participation.

For the uninitiated, what is the difference between an adjustable and a regular DE razor like the Merkur 34c?  What adjusts on these razors?

The angle of the blade.
