I have really been enjoying having a nice smooth head. That is, until the back of my head decided to flair up. I'm gonna have to keep it to just WTG on the back of my head and not do the ATG pass. I love the smooth feeling, but these ingrown hairs and bumps are not gonna be fun. Sucks, it's the only part of my head that had a problem.
(Hopefully the picture posts)

The back of the neck is typically more sensitive than the rest of the dome. I used to have those problems but I don't anymore. Sometimes the scalp just toughens up over time. Shave WTG for now and sometime down the road when you're feeling adventurous try ATG again.

I recommend Bump Patrol, sold at WalMart in a blue bottle. Bumps usually clear up in two to three days. Some witch hazel could also help here. Good luck!

Should I not shave it for a few days, or just keep on going but only go WTG for now?

I would just go WTG for now to give the affected area a chance to heal.

I get that sort of stuff on the back of my neck if I shave every day. Shaving every other day seems to have cleared it up for me.

I second that motion! I used to have really bad ingrown hairs back there and now am mostly clear. I also use Bump Stop 2 or Magic Shave Bump Rescue...

Are you using any kind of pre-shave? I get the same problem on the front of my neck, and have added Shave Secret oil to my routine. I apply it directly to my skin instead of in the lather like some do and it has reduced the razor burn to almost nil. Have you tried different shave creams? I used Taylor of Old Bond St and didn't get great results surprisingly. Col Conks glycerin soaps work great though.

Give it a day or 2 to heal. Anything more than 3 days you should probably use clippers to mow down the hair before taking a blade to it again.

Thanks for the feedback everybody.
Here is an updated picture from tonight after my shave. I have it a few days off and only went WTG tonight. Some of it has healed, but its still crappy back there.

Another suggestion to clear that up would be cortisone cream. Also, when you start shaving ATG back there again, rub your head with an ice cube to keep the pores clear. Good luck.
