Uh-oh - Dandruff
« on: August 19, 2013, 01:44:48 PM »
Hi guys,

Recently I've been getting some dandruff.  That and my hair has always got on my nerves, I've just whipped it all off.  I've not shaved with a razor, just hair clippers without a guard.

A rather unforeseen problem has appeared though.  It turns out my dandruff is a lot worse than I thought and I now have this white layer where my hair used to be.  I've washed and it got rid of some, but some is still there.  I don't want to go scrubbing in case it makes my head go red, and I'm in work in the morning.

Any ideas?

Thanks!!

Dandruff is basically dry skin, perhaps some tea tree oil, witch hazel and aloe vera, and of course a moisturiser

Yes to any and all of the above.  Plus the dandruff will lessen with continual head-shaving (since shaving also tends to have a bit of an exfoliating effect).

During an appointment with a Dermatologist for a different reason, he noticed a dry, flaky patch of skin on the bridge of my nose.  He advised that I use dandruff shampoo on it, and let it stand for 5 minutes before rinsing.  I asked for his recommendation for dandruff shampoo;  he replied that they all use one of two active ingredients, and that they both worked.

I did what he said and the patch went away.

Thanks guys.  It does seem to be a lot better just by shaving it.  I whacked on a handful of E45 after I did it.

I want to go the whole hog now and get it shaved fully, just need to convince the wife :)

Welcome! Nice job improving the dandruff condition, and as for the wife, you may be surprised...She may actually like it...Good Luck!
