Still Learning After 18 months
« on: July 31, 2013, 08:27:00 PM »
I just recently stumbled upon this forum and I think this is the best place to ask.
I've been shaving my head for a year and a half now and no matter what razor I use (I think the only thing I've not tried in a straight razor. And all I accomplished with the Headblade was cutting my head up.) I can't get rid of the stubble. I want my head slick and smooth more than anything, but my hair grows in so fast and so THICK that it just won't go away. Hell, there was even an experiment with Nair (Yeah, THAT was a really bad idea.)
Am I doing something wrong? Is there something else I can try? Better yet, is there a way to just kill the hair for good and be done with it?

Try changing directions of your shave, instead of going front to back try starting back to front. Also incorporate across the grain passes. Also try starting the the bottom of your ear and shave up toward the top of your head.

Do you shave your head daily?  I have a full head of hair and if I don't shave it daily, it's harder to shave then second day.

Shave secret oil?
Head slick?
I always use the headblade, but remember the rules.  Don't press hard. Take your time, fast strokes don't save time. Keep the wheels on your head (to avoid digging in).

After I'm all done, have the head lotion on. I go back and hit the spots that I missed.  They seem to show up when I apply the head gloss or hand cream.

Headslick with schick xtreme 3 disposables get my thick coarse hair slicked down smooth. I used shave secret under the headslick for a while when I started but now find I don't need it anymore

Welcome! I used to have the same problem, until I invested in Shave Secret and a Shaving Brush. Shave Secret is a preshave oil that helps your hair come off easier (Baby Oil is a good substitute) Also, applying your gel/soap with a brush loosens the hair making for closer shaves. Good luck!

I shave everyday before leaving for work. Honestly, at the rate it grows I could probably stand to do it twice a day, but I've tried that and it's just really, REALLY painful. Damn my hair having genes.

Found something really nice at the Farmer's Market last weekend. A lady was selling scented oil and sugar scrubs. Coconut oil, essential oils and natural sugar (for the grit).

Similar to St. Ives Apricot Scrub, but better scent, more oil, and nice and gritty sugar.  So after the shave, which I think is pretty smooth, I take a pinch of this stuff and rub it in all over my head. The sugar grit feels really nice, the essential oils have a great scent (I bought lemon and Coconut Macaroon).  When the grit is about finished, I take a wash cloth in cool water to get the sugar off my head.  The oil remains, and my head feels VERY VERY smooth. If there are any rough spots, I touch them up with the razor.  Wife says, the past few days have been the smoothest shaves ever.  I have to agree. Nice scent, super smooth. The coconut oil on the head at the end feels wonderful!!!!

You might give this a try.
