Movies -- do you use Vudu?

Has anyone here gotten any movies through vudu.com?  I just opened up an account with them and got ten free movies for doing so.  The movies were of their choosing and none of them were anything to get too excited about but it's a nice promotion nonetheless.  Vudu lets you buy and rent movies and stream them to your PC, tablet, mobile device, Roku box, Blu-ray player, etc.  You can also add up to five friends or family members to your account and give them access to your film library.

Another neat feature they are offering is the ability to convert your DVDs to digital.  Put a DVD in your PC's DVD drive and if they have the film in their library they will let you purchase a digital copy of the film at a reduced cost -- $2 for standard definition or $5 for high definition.  It's subject to a particular title's availability and it's a little hit or miss, but I did manage to get a nice HD copy of Michael Collins, one of my favorite movies which up to now has only been available on a crappy 1997 DVD release.

Finally, I was wondering if anyone was interested in trading redemption codes for digital and Ultraviolet copies.  I have an unused code for The Bourne Legacy.   The code is good for a digital copy that plays through iTunes or Windows Media Player, and an Ultraviolet copy.   I'll PM the code to whoever responds to this thread first.  Also, if anyone else has any unused digital/Ultraviolet codes that you're not planning to use, maybe someone here has something you'd like to see and you can make a swap.

Yes, I used VUDU a while back, and it worked great. They also have a 99 cent movie every day.

I haven't used Vudu yet but I've had my eye on it. We recently got a Roku and started out with one existing Netflix account and added Hulu+ to it. Do you have any experience with Netflix? If so, how does it compare to Vudu? I do have a Vudu account because I've bought a few movies with digital copies.

Also, I saw the import DVD feature that you mentioned but I haven't tried it yet.

I've never used Netflix because I already had an Amazon Prime account.  Vudu is a pay-for-what-you-watch service, not an "all you can eat" for a flat fee service like Netflix or Amazon Prime.

My initial thoughts about Vudu:  it is an expensive way to buy new copies of films -- certainly no cheaper than buying a physical disk.  However, most of their films are available in full 1080p HD.  I've used it to upgrade two DVDs to digital HD.  Other than that it's just a way to watch Ultraviolet copies of movies I've bought on Blu-ray.

I've tried to upgrade about a dozen or so titles and only found two that worked so far.  I was a little surprised at some of the ones that weren't available.  Most of those are available in HD on iTunes so the high definition masters do exist.   But I imagine more titles will added in the future.  I just need to be selective and figure out which titles are worthy of upgrading as it could get pricy to do them all.

That is because they are never going to offer their latest and best titles as part of an unlimited streaming plan.

Most of the churn with what's available for streaming and what's not is licensing madness. The licensing landscape for streaming media is incredibly Byzantine.

you guys in the us have a huge netflix library compared to us poor brits! I have it and although I have seen alot of whats on...it still throws up the odd gem...so staying with it..
