Another New Guy
« on: July 19, 2013, 08:37:23 AM »
Hey baldies!
I'm a new member here, but have been shaving my head for about seven and a half years.  Back then, the decision was based on the idea that if I was going to lose my hair, I was going to lose it on my own terms.  Never even considered a comb-over or other option.

I shaved my hair off right before going on vacation.  I had told my wife for months that I was going to do right before we left for vacation, but for some reason she didn't believe me.  So, it kind of surprised her when I came home with no hair.  She wasn't sure that she liked it at first, but then while we were in the Bahamas, we were walking about 10 feet behind a guy whose comb-over was blowing out about a foot to the side in the wind.  She looked at me, and said, "Yeah, this is better."

Key products for me:
* Blade:  currently using Dollar Shave Club 4x, but probably going to use up the 2 months worth of blades then switch to something else (quality issues)
* Cream:  Headslick - tried it once years ago and have never looked back.  It's the best stuff out there, especially since I shave in the shower
* Exfoliant:  HeadShed - another great product.  I use it once or twice a week - especially if I haven't shaved in a few days.  It makes the hair stand up better for a shave, and really makes my skin feel pretty good.
* Wipes:  Bald Guyz head wipes - my head stays pretty oily naturally, so these really help, especially when it's hot and my head starts to sweat.
* Lotion:  I've tried several things, but am not hooked on any one.  Bath & Body Works used to make some gels for men that I really liked - it soothed irritation, tightened up the pores, shined the skin, but did not make it feel like a lotion or other product was on.  But, they stopped carrying it.  Open to suggestions from others.
* Sun:  I hate wearing hats, and my head sweats a lot anyway.  However, I do try to make sure I lather up with sunscreen if I'm going to be outside more than an hour or so at a time.  No particular brand of sunscreen here, but typically 30-50 SPF.

Funny things I noticed after becoming bald:  First, I actually had people cross the street when they saw me coming.  I don't have a "tough guy" bone in my body, and cannot even fake looking mean, so this was actually kind of funny.  Secondly, I started getting the "head nod" from guys, especially those that are bald and those who look like they're thinking about it.  Yep, we know.

That's probably about all that comes to mind for me now, but I'm enjoying the forums, and thought I should introduce myself before I lurk any.   ;)
