Trouble Spots

     I have noticed I have a couple of "trouble spots" lately. No matter what I do I just can't seem to get a good close shave just across the back of my noggin.  I've gone ATX, WTG even XTG and nothing. Next step will be sandpaper or chainsaw. Any advice?

I personally also struggle with this area of the head.  I find some days I can get it pretty smooth, other it takes a lot of irritation.  I use a double edge razor so my experience may be different, but I do know one thing that helps: make sure you're tilting your head forward as you shave.  The tighter the skin back there is, the easier a close shave will be to achieve.

Have you considered trying another razor? Maybe it's time for me a new blade!

Have used Mach 3, Fusion and HeadBlades Sport and ATX. So far have great results with Shick XTreme 3 and get baby butt smooth except for the trouble spots.

Do you use a shaving brush and/or Shave Secret? I get that area smooth, although sometimes it may take a second pass. When I used to have trouble getting that BBS shave, I used to just lather and shave one side/area at a time. Maybe you should lather and shave one side, lather and shave the other side, lather and shave the top and then save the back for last. Don't beat yourself up too hard, nearly everyone's hair is stronger in the back thus making it harder to shave clean. Good luck!

Well use the Shick XTreme 3 and before you shave open your pores with a hot towel then apply lather and shave....then when you're done close the pore with a cold towel then apply aftershave to lower your chance of irritation!

I get the back of the head fine usually, my trouble area are the sides just below the crown.  Always have to re-touch them no matter what razor I use....

Yeah, I've got a few spots like that (either side of back of the neck). It's best not to obsess about them.

You could try an orbital sander!

Are you 100% certain you're shaving in the proper direction(s)? Try reversing your directions, sometimes hair on the back of the head tends to grow in multiple directions. For those trouble spots stat against the grain then relather and go across the grain (both left to right then right to left). Finish up with your preferred exfoliation scrub.

Right across the back it grows in 4 different directions. Looks like I'm trying to run a maze when I shave.
However, just got a nice boar hair brush and used with Neutrogena for Men shave cream and a few drops
of Shave Secret and the trouble spots are gone. Used a few more drops of the SS in place of aftershave or balm and any irritation I had is also gone. From now on I will always have  bottle with me.

That's good news. I was never a fan of relathering but I seem to get better results when I do. I'll just have to bite the bullet and do it unless I'm pressed for time.

sounds like I gotta try my brush! I already use Shave Secret. but I agree...with SlyBear. It's best not to obsess about it......you'll end of nicking yourself or create some irritation.

Well, only shaved 3 times so far and for me it's a matter of going over some section a few times before they are smooth. Even then, the back of my head looks patchy even though it feels smooth!?
