I purchased an ATX when I was first getting ready to go sly, as I always thought shaving the dome would be a hassle in general and the ATX might make it easier. Well, while waiting for the ATX to arrive in the mail, I decided to get a head start using a Gilette Mach 3 disposable. I was pleasantly surprised at how easy it was to achieve a nice bbs dome with the stick razor. When the ATX arrived, I tried it for about a week but I found that having to wear it on my finger was far too restrictive, and shaving around my ears and from the sideburns up to the crown was really awkward and unnatural. I ditched the ATX and moved to a Gillette Fusion Proglide, and I have not looked back since. The stick razor is versatile enough to be used in whatever position I require, and the blades last a long time.

Sport is miles better than ATX. IMO. Can't get on with the ATX.

Dan and Mark, I feel the same way about the ATX, I do not like it at all. the Sport is way better.

I have to chime in here.. I loved my ATX. When I first used that razor I thought it was the best thing for shaving the dome ever invented! Thats after using the Fusion, Mach 3, Hydro, etc. Then I tried the Gillette Body and my ATX sat on the sidelines for a bit. THEN I tried a DE and never looked back! I got rid of all my cart razors except the ATX. I keep it around for some reason. Sometimes I use it to touch up over my ears (my trouble area). I think I just like the way it looks sitting on my sink..

Wutwutman, how do you do around the ears with the ATX? It's that aspect, in particular, that killed the ATX for me. The swipes from front to back to front were great, very comfortable and natural; but around the ears was very awkward. Do you take it off your finger for those areas, and just use it in the style of a standard razor?

@DanJMag - I just hold it by the ring like a handle instead of "wearing" it. It actually works better for me as a touch up tool than it did as my daily shaver. I can relate to the awkwardness you stated. I hated using the ATX on my face. But on a side note, if you like the Fusion, you should check out the Gillette Body. IMHO that was the best cart razor out of the bunch for me!

I had to give up the ATX and carts in general because the left side of my head apparently is super prone to irritation. I switched to DE and all of that irritation cleared up.

I picked up a ATX at the local drug store. I was already skeptical because I had read this thread pryor to picking it up.
My first try with it, I didnt really care for it. But like I said I was already skeptical. A few days later I realized I wasnt giving it a far try, so I made myself use it for the past week.
Obviously it got better as I got use to using it. However I think Im just to use to my gillette. I can do the same job in about the same amount of time with either of them. (I average about 10minutes with both) But even though it takes about the same amount of time it still seems like Im going over the same spots more with the ATX. And replacement blades arent as available here for the ATX as they are for my gillette.
So for me atleast. Since its not making the job any quicker, smoother, and replacement blades arent easily found (without purchasing adapters, which kind of defeats the purpose in my eyes). I'll just stick with my old gillette -

I also tried an ATX and just didnt work for me. Switched to a Fusion which was really good but expensive!
Now use a DE and been learning with that as cost wise it is so reasonable. -

I am using the fusion now for my head but would like to step up to the DE. Just haven't tried it yet will probably try it soon. I have been using the DE razor on my face now for about six months and love it.

I too am giving up on the ATX with the 4 blades. I've been using the HB sport for several years and really liked it but I fell into the old trap that newer is better. Not so! I never got a smooth shave with the ATX and had to finish up with my Panasonic Electric. Back to the HB Sport with the 3 blades for me, much, much better.

I picked up my ATX and gave it a spin using the same technique I use for DE shaving and it did well on the top and back even in the spots I used to have trouble with. So I'd say that the ATX requires a fairly specific technique but can still get great results if you take the time to learn it.

Fusion is just too expensive for me.
Any cartridge for that matter...Fusion, Mach 3, etc.
It's why I got back into DE shaving. I refuse to pay exorbitant prices to shave my face or The Dome.
P&G can pound sand as far as I'm concerned. (My own little rant...and it felt good :-))
