Thinking about trying a mohawk. Advice?

So, I'm thinking about trying a mohawk. I wanted to do that before shaving my head and have wanted to since. But I don't know how to start with that. Do I go to a barber and have him shape it? I don't know, I'm just speculating now.

Most barbers will do it upon request. Do you want a Mohawk with the sides shaved to the skin or the more conservative version with the sides tapered?

Sides shaved. I don't like the buzz cut or short hair versions on the sides.

Mohawks with sides shaved are better IMO (on a male, anyway)
