week one
« on: May 25, 2013, 12:07:25 PM »
So week one into the 30 days and I'm really starting to enjoy the shaved look and feel. Well, the problem comes that i am shaving once and sometimes twice a day. And after just a week i have gone through 2 and working on my third HB 3blade. i am going to order some of the 6 blade. Also i am having a problem with the back of my head having some serious razor irritation, and have cut my head in the same spot every time. the spot i think is a bump that i keep shaving off. Any advice on the irritation or any of this would be helpful thank you.

You're likely shaving too often. I can only shave every other day to avoid irritation to the back of my head.

I use the HB ATX....but this goes for any blade that you use. When you are done shaving, store your blades in some baby oil (I use a small Ziploc container that I lost the top to) I would put about three or four capfuls into something and let the blade(s) sit in the baby oil. I got at least 10 shaves off of the ATX blade when I started doing this. Another suggestion to prevent irritation is to rub an ice cube over your head after shaving. This will cool your pores and cause less itching and bumping. Good Luck!
Even when the d is removed, the devil is still evil.

I agree that you're probably doing it too often. I usually shave every other day unless I have something REALLY important to do that I need to look good for. When I first started shaving my head, I would shave every morning before work (Paramedic, like you) and it would irritate slightly. Be sure you're using a good shave cream as well, maybe a little shave secret? I haven't tried it myself, but I hear good things about it. I've started using cold witch hazel since coming to this forum, and I'm happy with the result, it makes for a good astringent. A good moisturizing after shave as well. Of course, you're probably doing all of this and I've just wasted the bandwidth..    :px

One thing i have tried is a wet/dry Panasonic linear shaver. It is less of a chore in that you dont have to pay so much attention and just sort of run it all over your head and feel if there is any stubble left. I use it in the shower with whatever shave gel/foam I have and with some pressure. I sometimes will use a Mach 3 first and this after which gets my head totally smooth and I do obess about it when Im shaving regularly. I want it totally hair free and stubble free which is what I enjoy about being sly most. If Im in a hurry I just use the Panasonic and Im done in 1 to 2 minutes. It will cause irritation if you press too hard but it works well on the back of the head which is prone to irritation for me. I believe this is because we are moving our heads up and down throughtout the day, compressing the skin and follicles rigth after shaving, causing them to become irritated and press against skin as it grows, unlike the yop of the head where the skin is not really moving or folding.

Before you submit to shaving every other day, I would try a cheap Schick xtreme 3, it's the black and teal disposable that the blades contour laterally. I shave once even twice a day with mine. Never a nick , always totally slick smooth. I get about 4-5 shaves out of every one. I pick them up at about a $ a piece at BJ's or Sam's , or any other wholesale club. If you want alternate between the HeadBlade and the Schick, that's what I did in the beginning. Now I just use the Schick cause it honestly gives the smoothest slickest shave out of any of the razors I've tried. Also pick up some Shave Secret preshave oil. It works amazing underneath headslick shave cream. Good Luck, and have fun experimenting!
