I have been look all over and cant seem to find the info im looking for. Im new to shaving my head and have been trying for about 2 weeks now. My problem is that it takes me 45- 1 hour to shave my head due to my thick hair. i am not black just have good strong hair with no hair loss. i just like my head being bald

.
i been using a Gillette fusion 5 blade with some shaving gel and i use some aloe vera lotion after wards. i have found i have to make several passes against the grain and several more against the grain, also i have very sensitive lower neck hair that gets very irritated if i go against the grain with it. i have tried before and after a shower and even in shower and tried light slower passes and alil bit harder faster passes... either way still takes a 6-12 passes to get smooth skin. i am thinking of getting a different razor and trying a different shaving gel/foam or oil. If it helps any im Caucasian / native American and i am 22 years old.

Try Proraso soap and a brush, or actually ANY shaving soap and a brush. A quality razor is a must; I like the super expensive fusion blades but am experimenting with a Murkur DE. We'll see how that goes.

try shaving in the shower. If you can get a nice and close shave one day then there shouldn't be as much hair the next (this varies depending on how fast your hair grows).

You could try using a good wet/dry electric shaver first then finish with a good razor like a Fusion. When I started shaving, this was the route I went and it worked well. I used a Panasonic Linear shaver with HeadSlick with and against the grain, then relathered and used a razor against the grain only. Using the electric first cuts down the hair and reduces the irritation caused by making many passes with a blade.

i was waiting every other day to 2 days now im trying every day which to my surprise is going slightly smoother. this way i cut out the with the grain and just do against the grain. im very surprised my head is handling it so far actually and my hairs grows back fast. i think maybe my head just needs to adjust to the shaving as ive never done it before 2 weeks ago.
Im also thinking if its still doesnt change in another week or 2 im going to start experimenting with different razors.

I too, have a full head of hair, and thus am bald by choice (BBC). I shave my head daily for best results. If I skip a day or two, then have to alter the routine.
Normally I just use the head blade sport against the grain. But if I skip a day, get out the Gillette Power Pro Fusion. Go over all WITH the grain to mow down the 'grass'. Then use the head blade against the grain.
There is just too much hair to shave ATG the first time if I'm not shaving my head daily.
Yes, on day 2 or 3 it does take more time. But it's pretty fast (about 5 minutes) if I shave daily.

Lots of suggestions. My advise is don't press hard. go lightly let razor do its job. You can go over it multiple times but lightly.

I recommend Headblade ATX, it's very user friendly.

As I just wrote to another fella, and huge fan of the Gillette guard and Razorock shave gel. I too have extremely thick hair, bald by choice, and DE shaving is awesome for those of us in this camp. I like that Gillette guard because it has a pivoting head almost like a Mach 3. Therefore, it is very forgiving over bumps and when shaving more quickly. Much much cheaper than the average cartridge razor, out of which those of us with thick hair can to only get one or two good shaves.

Ok my cartridge was getting dull so i changed it and had a better shave yesterday went smooth actually . but today i nicked and got razor burn bad today. kinda drop my hopes some but i thinking i just need to continue doing it alil longer and my head will get use to it. i have to admit the lower neck hair is insanly sensitive go against the grain is like an automatic irritation lol sucks. i think im go with the grain and to different angles with the neck hair. thinking about going to walmart to check and see what other razor options are around hope they have an ok DE razor.
my head is irritated at the moment.. i think 75-90% of it will subside after an hr or 2.
im thinking of getting a new pre shave.

are you sure you're not pressing to hard? I thought I was being careful when I first started, but got razor burn, so I backed off, and let the razor do the work, not had a problem since

Let the razor burn heal before shaving again.
It's good to experiment with different razors/shaving techniques when starting out, this helps you get a better idea of what works for you and what doesn't.
Remember shaving isn't a one size fits all deal, you have to figure out what works best for you (from the blade to the cream/soap pre shave/post shave).
