hey group.. help needed
« on: April 24, 2013, 11:25:46 AM »
hey im Richie (mates call me chad) from the north east of england.

Ive been browsing and think you guys have a wickid community going on here and would love advice.

im not receeding or anything but have recently wanted a change and for as long as I can remember have been curious about shaving all my hair off.  Thing is ive gone to get it done a few times but each time im in the chair i hold back and dont ask for it.. just nervous which is weird since im very confident person usually.  how do i get over this fear and should i just go for it?

if so should i go to barbers or i have clippers at home with me and feel the urge?

what do i ask for exactly? bare in mind many uk barbers wont do a full shave.

thanks and here is a picture to help judge and offer advice! oh and im 25!

Hi Chad.
You'll only know the answer by taking the plunge.
Maybe get used to it gradually. Get the clippers out with a #4 guard...then a #3 .... then #2... you get the idea.

Good luck.

Chad, I agree with Schro completely. Going down the route of gradual shortness then slyness is a very good way to eaze into the look. Diving right in and shaving of course can be a huge deal to some people. What you have to think about is what YOU want and not worry about other people's comments / reactions. Good luck with whatever you decide to do!

My hair was longer than yours when I went full bald. I liked the sudden change. I set up a head shave appointment with a barber shop that offers full head shaves so I didn't even have to ask.

I went from mid-back to bald in the course of one haircut!  I'd find a gradual approach excruciating, but I was totally committed to going sly.

It's up to you to determine your goal: gradually acclimate yourself and your friends/family/peers to a balder and balder person, or just go for it all at once.  Either way seems to take about 10 days to get used to.

For you personally, I think you'd be a real cutie with your head shaved.  Apologies if I sound like your auntie or something,

The barber will take care of the messy shite, have him/her clip you as close as they can.

Then you go home, soak a towel in hot water, wrap it on your head, let it sit for a few and then lather up and shave away.

G'Day Chad mate,

Welcome to the Bastion Of Baldness.

Plenty of good advice given.

If your not totally certain...start with a buzz cut and see how it goes. If you feel adventurous go the whole hog and shave it smooth.

Hey...if you don't like either...no harm no foul....grow it back!  O0

I got it clipped once by a hairdresser (No2) then bought my own clippers a few days later and started clipping it myself, quickly progressing over a month or two to no guard direct clipping with a Baldfader.

Got sick of that whole routine after a year or so (and the mess) so ordered an ATX for a bit of excitement and now really enjoying shaving. So in summary (as others have said) everyone does what feels best for them. Clearly I needed to ease up on the idea of Sly, plus I think I really enjoyed the process of learning about the best clippers and buying them and all the associated stuff. So I enjoyed the journey to sly very much

Good thing about clipping is that it not such a big shock for you or others and it means you can begin to get a bit of color on your scalp whilst still having some hair to provide sun protection. Going straight from hair to shaved will be a big shock and your scalp will be glowing white even a bit purple/white I have seen :)
and the end of our exploring will be to arrive where we started and know the place for the first time

I had been wearing my hair "high and tight" for almost a year before I finally shaved it. Definitely easier to go completely sly  that way.

Chad, I can say with some degree of assurance that in order to get over the nervousness that you are feeling the best course of action is to find a barber that does head shaving, go there and when the barber asks what you would like just say that you want all your hair off completely. I can say that when those clippers start doing their job you may want to ask the barber to stop at just the buzz & you will be a bit nervous, but just relax & you will enjoy the experience & transformation to a cool, bald dude!

Now is a good time for the "haircut" as any.

Go for it, mate. You will not look back & will love it. As our sly sis, Bella say's it will take about 10 days or so to get used to the idea that you are meant to be a bald guy by choice, but it is well worth it. You will also save a small fortune by not having to buy lot's of expensive gels & the likes. All the best.

whatver you want. if you're shaving it all then clip it down as low as you can (a zero I think?) then shave with a razor for a smooth head. i don't even have clippers so i just shave every other day.

for as long as I can remember have been curious about shaving all my hair off.

Satisfy your curiosity and thrill yourself by asking the barber to shave your hair down to grade 1.

Then finish the job off at home with a razor. And marvel at the results. Go for it.

From NE England ? Fond memories of fish and chips in Whitby and Seahouses. :)

think of it like a roller coaster. you'll never know how great it is until you strap yourself in for sure and committ :)
