Upset, traumatised and not allowed shave
« on: April 07, 2013, 07:00:18 AM »
1/ Got HB6 blades in the mail to test on my new ATX and then set it all up so I could shave when I got home from work. Excitement!
2/ I then went to work.
3/ Later that day I dropped my car keys whilst drying my hands under a hand dryer.
4/ Then on the way up after picking them up, I banged my head on the corner of the metal shute hard! splitting it open nicely, a V shaped split. Horror movie level blood running down face.
5/ The absolutely stunningly beautiful nurse at my local medical centre fixes it up and says that I can't shave. I have to wait until it "all heals properly of course". I float out of the room.... nurse... nice....
6/ Walking out of the medical centre, reality hits... I now have a dressing on my head and I look plain silly. Bald man with a big white square dressing on head :(

P.s Absolutely stunningly beautiful nurse said I could shave around it but "You might end up with a funny tuft of hair I suppose" she said with a cheeky smile.

I now have what already feels like the longest wait in the history of humans on this planet until I can shave again  g@@4
Do you have any similar stories?

If anyone asks you were attacked by a mugger. But you have to be vague about the details because the police might be looking for you (another way of saying "you should see the other guy!").
Or you could have gotten cut in training at your MMA gym.
Or fell off a surfboard and were immediately set upon by a great white and it's just by the grace of God that you lived to tell about it.

I've done this myself. About a week and your stitches will be out, then a week or so 'til the scab falls off and you'll be shaving again. Just keep thinking about how smooth your head is going to feel after that first shave.

Last week I banged my head under my desk while pulling some wires. FOr most of the week I had a nickel-sized scab that I needed to shave around. What a pain in the derriere!

A few years back I did pretty much what you did, except I banged my head into a fluorescent light fixture, demolishing it and my head.

So don't feel stupid -- it's easy to do!

At least you know what to look forward to when you start shaving your head again.

I'd be gutted. And the thought of not being able to shave my head due an accident has crossed my mind, too.

G'Day Crowbar mate,

Bummer about damaging the old noggin, don't worry mate, it will heal in no time
and you will give your new ATX a workout.

In the meantime just keep thinking about the beautiful nurse, that should ease your pain
and take your mind off the scar lol  O0

I've had stitches in my scalp due to surgery....I've clipper shaved my head until the stitches came out. While a clipper shave doesn't give us the smoothness of a good old fashioned razor, it has held me over in the short term. Just a suggestion if you don't want to grow four weeks worth of fringe....

Thanks for all your replies and support everyone
I like the story suggestions Buddha...
I can see myself telling it now at my local cafe with little kids gathered around ..... "and then I pulled the sharks tooth out of my head and poked him straight in the eye with it!!"......

And the fluorescent light incident TheSlyBear, now that sounds like it would have been quite impressive to see!

It is a beautiful morning here OzSly, I thought of the nurse as you said and suddenly the morning is even more beautiful and I feel much better

Clippers is a great idea SlySirHarry and a waitress where I am having coffee now has just jokingly suggested another.
Seeing as the cut is in the middle of my head near the front why not do a "On top only Mohawk shave"
(with my MPB hairline this would work lol) I'm now considering doing this just for fun, who cares hah :)

Ow! So what did you do Lynchy? did you shave over the scab and make it all worse? Ow?!

I couldn't bear it anymore last night as my hair was easily 3mm long, so messy lol
So I went for the Mowhawk on top as the waitress suggested, but that looked so "Try Hard" and of course it died at the crown. so I then shaved the lot off all around the cut and then eased up to the cut with an electric razor, this worked really well :)

Ouch! I've cut myself badly but never anything like that. Whenever I did I just used my head blade to shave around the dressing. The resulting patch of hair left after I removed the dressing was hilarious, but it made me feel better to keep the rest shiny.

I once literally peeled a part of my scalp like a potato while shaving. The blade got caught underneath my skin and took a nice sized sliver of scalp. I had to wear a big Band-Aid on my head for about three weeks and obviously had to grow my hair back. The skin eventually healed but it's lighter than the skin on the rest of my head. The hair in that area where I had peeled my scalp grew back very thin   I finally got the courage to shave my head again and no one really even notices that that skin in lighter in that area. Needless to say I am very careful now and have no more accidents since. (fingers crossed)

I have my own head injury story to tell, there are a few of us that have done silly things resulting in not being able to shave for a bit, haha.

I was working along side some temporary fencing with a mattock and without realising what I was doing I turned to face the fence and hit the fence with the mattock and it rebounded back and cracked me on the top of the head! thankfully stitches weren't required, and no pretty nurse to help fix me up... maybe next time... haha!

crowbar, Sorry to hear about your misfortune. I hope that it all heals up soon for you. t is a bummer not being able to shave the noggin nice and smooth. It won't be long until it heals though.

I have gotten some cuts  from when I first started using a DE razor. Being that I am 6' 3" tall, I have had the misfortune of banging agains't a couple of exit signs above a door. That really smarts too. I told myson that is one of the disadvantages of being tall.

Good luck. Hope that it all heals up soon.

Welcome to sly bald guys.
