Kids...ARRRG!!!
« on: June 14, 2007, 04:09:58 AM »
I know we've talked about our kids before and some different problems we have had with them but does anyone have anything new to share?

My, now almost 15 month old, kept me up all night last night.  He's teething and one is coming in right after the other.  On top of that he's got some type of cold virus that's going around.  About a 2 months ago I posted a story on here about how he got dehydrated and had to go to the emergency room to get fluids in him.  I've told this story before but he was also born with a breathing complication and had to come home on a breathing monitor for 4 months.  He had stopped breathing in the middle of the night in the hospital nursery after his third day of birth and turned blue.  They think it was bad reflux.  Anyway, after he was deemed ok and got off the breathing monitor he had to go to the hospital for a heart murmur.  The dr. found that there was a small hole that hadn't closed yet but that it "should" by the age of 2.  We have to take him back then and get it checked.  Then his circumcision didn't heal correctly and he has been back and forth to his regular pediatrician to get that corrected.  About a month ago she finally gave up on it and scheduled him to be seen by a urologist to get that point of view.  The good news is that the dr. that seen him said that it was an easy fix.  But the bads news was that while he was checking my son out he noticed that one of my sons testicles was unusually larger than the other one.  He found that there was a large amount of fluid built up around it.  Eventually what it came down to is that my son has what they call a "hydrocele."  I had never heard of this before and was totally scared out of my mind when he first spoke of it.  But after the dr. explained things in more detail he calmed me down.  Basically it's just a build up of watery fluid in the scrotum.  It comes from a hole in the abdomen that didn't close at birth which should have.  It's allowing fluid to come through the abdomen into the scrotum.  They say it's totally painless but may cause some discomfort as you guys out there can imagine.  They say the surgery for it is very simple and is actually one of the most frequent ones of toddlers at my son's age.  That info made me feel a whole lot better.  They said it's a real simple surgery and that most kids are up and playing the same day like nothing happened.  They say it's safest to take care of it at an early age because if let go major problems can develop.  His surgery is scheduled in about 2 weeks.  I just feel bad for the little guy because he's been through so much already and he's just over a year old.  I hope he's getting all my worries out of the way now and he'll be a good teenager.  Yeah right!!!  ;D  Sorry to go on and on but it feels good to talk about all that stuff.  Like I've said before, there is no book on this stuff.  Forget all that crap.

Wow Lance.. well sure hope all goes well after the op for a while he and you guys need a break..

well I've got one.. when alicia was about 2 .. we where on vacation so made a nice fire outside just before the sun goes down. so the little was runing all over the place.. eventually she fell on the grass.. so she came to me holding her arm .. I had seen her fall but.. it wasn't so bad.. so anyways we put some ice on it, she kept holding her arm the remaining of the evening.. the next day.. she was still holding her arm in with the other one.. so I checked her and I could not move her arm.. we went to the local hospital.. she had a fractured wrist.. no wonder it was painfull.......she was in a cast for the next 3 weeks.

Now I would say arround 1 month afterwards we put her to bed one night..(she was already in a bed since she was trying to get over the cribs gate).. so we also go to bed.. all of a sunden BANG!..we get up my wife and I.. go to see the little one she had fell off her bed..(we had put some guards on the sides)... we comfort her.. she was ok.. and then she starts vomiting ... and more and more.. like every 5 min. she was vomiting so we quickly grabbed her things and drove to the hospital.. she was vomiting every 5 min... she had a concution.. man what a nightmare she was hospitalise for 4 days under close observations.. scans after scans.. but the what made me feel worst I think it's the doc's questions...........( he took my wife asside and wanted to speak in private with her.. (this guy doesn't know ME>>)... Made us feel like it was our fault like we might have beaten her and stuff like...anyways all turned out ok ......

Wow Lance, had no idea the little guy had been through so much already in his little life.  My thoughts and prayers are with you, your wife and especially your son.

I keep a good thought for your son, Lance.
One thing's for sure, your son's gonna be a tough "sumbeach" when he gets older (thank pburke for that one).

I'll pour a double Schrotini when I get home this evening.

Lance, I truly feel your pain brother. My son has been through the ringer in his short four years since being born. I won't go into the full details, because I know I have before. Just know that your family is in my prayers, and if you ever need someone to talk to I'm here. It gets tiresome, I know. You can PM me anytime or you have my myspace page where you can e-mail me. If you want, I can also give you my cell phone number. Anything at anytime, I'm here for ya.

He'll pull through it like a trooper, I promise you.

All my best, PigPen

I'll keep the little guy in my prayers also.

Sounds like a lot of what I went through when I was his age.  I turned out Ok, so I'm sure he'll be much better off than I am.
