Ever since this change it takes forever for SlyBaldGuys to load and post, could it be all the Flash and ads?
Really makes for a less positive user experience.

I agree with NoPony, I've been having lots of trouble lately, from logging in to reading new posts. I keep getting odd error messages when trying to log in and it's just slower overall. Don't know if it's due to the new homepage, but I'm sure you'll work it out if it is.

The slowness and the homepage have nothing to do with each other.  I've found the problem and I'm working on the fix.
