Straight razor barber shave

So I had a straight razor shave on Saturday and it wasn't very close but she  cut me about five times. How long I need to wait before I go over it with my ATX ? I also think I'll look for a new barber not to keen on getting my scalp butchered.

Usually, the average shaving cut heals in 24-48 hours....It is almost impossible to get that BBS shave at a barbershop, though you may get lucky if the barber himself happens to be sly (I have) By the third day you should be good to go with your ATX. Good Luck!

I've had five barbershop shaves and none were as smooth as what I can do myself.  The closest was a barber who used a twin-bladed cartridge razor.  The best straight razor shave was a great experience - the barber was very skilled and the razor just seemed to glide across my scalp.  Very smooth, but not perfect.

A good barber shouldn't nick or cut you.  I'd look for another barber.

As SirHarry says, you should eb able to go back to shaving in a couple days.  Just take it slowly and carefully around the nicks.

Wow letting anyone near my head with a straight razor makes me nervous.

As a young whippersnapper a visit to the barber (when I'd get my crew cut) would include the warm later and the straightedge to "cleanup" the sideburns. That was always a treat.

Now I would appreciate it all the more.

My first headshave was done with a
 straight by a great female barber. it was not super smooth but was very pleasant and gave me only very minor irritation around temples. I went at it the next day with my own de razor and gave myself a closer (albeit more irritating) shave. If you go to a place that offers that you should do it. Made my first sly experience great.

It depends on how quickly you heal and how severe the cuts were. If you heal quickly than you might only need 2-3 days to let it heal. If they were bad cuts I'd give it a week just to be safe.

I'm going to get my local Turkish barber to give me a straight razor headshave to celebrate my 30th day of being sly. Should be interesting.

Hi Smoothsailing, yes I had a local kurdish barber do the straight razor headshave a couple of days ago. Had to wait a couple of days past my 30th days due to everything being closed for Easter weekend here in jolly old England! Was an enjoyable experience but not as close a shave as I can do. It seems to be the case with most people on this board, after all, who knows your own head better than you! Great pampering experience but my own shaves definitely have a better end result. Loved the head massage after, very relaxing!

Reminds me of some of the headshaves that I got in Iraq ~three years ago....they did a good job on the facial hair (I could only wear a mustache in the military) but even though the shave was never as close as I could get it myself, they did better than most American barbers, and of course the head massage with lotion was always a plus...all for ~$10!

On YouTube, there's a video of a guy getting "the works" from a Turkish Barber that has me considering changing my travel plans. As soon as my shoulder and I can travel, I can see going to New Zealand via Istandbul.(Courtesy Emirates that's entirely possible) And that place by the Galata bridge. I don't remember what it cost but the expressions "next to nothing" or "very little" come to mind. What's also interesting is that there are young kids serving as apprentices who hand in hot towels, take away used towels etc. and then stand very close while the shampoo or foam or massage oil is applied. One feels that, in two or three years, they may be allowed to at least shampoo but shaving is clearly down the line. At least until they can practice on themselves.

my last visit to my bald Turkish barber 2 weeks ago was as always relaxing. soap, a glass of tea, shaving with the razor, head massage. just great
