I'm a 26 year old male and over the last year I have noticed I am losing hair on my legs, in the calf area. Mainly around the back of my calves but it it starting to spread to the sides and front. In some areas the hair is just becoming very sparsely spread out, but in others the hair is more like stubble now. Its really weird.
Its definitely not from socks or tight clothing rubbing.
I am also developing varicose veins in both legs..considering I am an active healthy 26 year old with no family history of these, I find it quite alarming.
I went to my doctor, twice, and he just dismissed it as something harmless and I shouldnt worry..but I am worried!
I used to like having really hairy legs as it made me feel masculine, now I dont know if I could ever expose them in public again

Well the only thing I can think of is that maybe you are wearing pants to much I don't know if it has been proven true but I have heard men losing hair from wearing pants to much. I don't really now what it could be may to research it and compare pics with your leg and see what is happening and maybe then you can figure it out

Based on summertime observation about a good number of guys seem to lose their leg hair at some point. Never noticed any correlation between head hair loss and leg hair loss, but I definitely notice a lot of men walking around with thin/sparse/no leg hair.
By 50 my dad's legs were basically hairless. He never lost any hair on top.
If you figure out the secret pass it onto me please - shaving legs is not nearly as fun as shaving your head

I suspect it is a genetic variation. I am 52 and pretty hairy everywhere else except my noggin. No hairloss on the legs yet!

I wouldn't worry excessively, but I would go to your doctor again and insist on getting a referral to see some kind of specialist. Often, your physician is overworked/busy and in spite of being good physicians dismiss individual cases out of hand until it is too late.
As for leg hair though...honestly, I buzz my leg hair as well as my head! The reason: less hair on my legs shows off my muscled calves, and that's more manly than having a bunch of unkempt leg hair. Trust me, it's also a hit with the ladies too if you do more manscaping.

The back of one of my calves was losing hair a couple years ago and I also found it alarming. I did some comforting research and it seems to be a common phenomenon. It eventually grew back and I haven't thought of it since.

Exactly the same thing happened to me starting at about age 22. Now at age 58 my legs are completely hairless apart from a tiny bit on the front top of my shins. Based on my experience your doc is correct in advising you to forget about it -- going to a specialist would be wasteful of resources, money and purely indulgent.
I think that my legs were basically hairless at about age 30. It didn't seem to be connected with anything else including hair loss from the head.

I suffer from the same thing. I can grow a nice beard, hairy chest and arms but the legs are pretty much non-existent. Don't like it but there isn't anything a guy can do about it. I agree with the others, it has to be generic as all three of my sons have very hair legs. My wife's uncle has alot of body hair but her dad has practically none. It's just the way we're made.

I never had hair on my legs or arms for that matter......Seems like the only place where my hair grows fast is on the face....you'll probably get more answers than I care to count, but I wouldn't lose too much sleep over it.

I think the weird thing with me is that hair appears to be growing on my calves after so many years of only having stubble.

20 years of wearing combat boots and blousing my pants did a number on my lower legs and the hair hasn't grown back.

About ten years back (at roughly 25 years old), I discovered that the back of my calves was losing hair but I did'nt care. I have just checked : hair is thinner than on other parts of the legs but seems to come back.
I think you should'nt worry, except if you consider it ugly.

Never had much body hair either. My legs, arms, and chest look like a shaved Olympic swimmer. Can grow a beard in almost no time though. Wouldn't worry much; you're way too young to worry about most things that plague us older guys.

since your doc cleared ya, I would not worry about it too much.
I seemed to get more leg hair about the time I was loosing hair on my head. That said, I could care less how much or little I have. I don't think there's any correlation to masculinity. I never had a girl comment either way.
