Those of you who are BBC, what about the daily "maintenance"?

To those who are BBC, what are your thoughts as to the additional maintenance required to stay BBC/BBS?  With buzzing your head you only have to do that say once a week with clippers, but I am finding that the next day after getting BBS I have enough stubble that my hand drags across my scalp.  No longer BBS.  What are your thoughts about having to add something else to your daily regime? 

Is it "worth" it to you to keep that up?  I know that is a highly subjective question.

Do you shave daily with a blade or maybe electric shaver?  Much more surface area on the head as opposed to the face so more time would be needed daily to prep for the day.

Not a BBC guy here (at least not after I hit about 26 years old) but one thing I find that gives me longer lasting shaves is a shaving brush and shaving soaps. This might be a bit advanced for the beginner head shaver, but once you get the hang of it the lather allows a smoother shave that lasts me about 36-48 hours before I can feel stubble and in most cases I don't actually SEE the stubble until the third day. Just offering a suggestion, maybe one of the BBC guys can chime in with their routine. Good luck!

Good advice with the brush and soap. It does help you stay stubble free for an extra day. For me shaving both wtg and atg helps too but not for quite as long. I think you'll find that as you get more accustomed to shaving your dome you'll actually get faster at it. Experience will also help you figure out what works best for you in keeping your dome smooth and shiny for the most time.

I'm not bald by choice - I am receeding but also have a small bald spot. If I have hair it looks like I am holding on to the hair for grim death but if I am sly there is a shadow there towards the end of the day.) I stare in envy at those that have no shadow on their head.

So for me, I have to shave everyday to hide the receeding and bald spot. It's part of my routine and if I don't I feel less confident

I'm BBC and sometimes it is a hassle to have to shave so often. I've noticed that I can generally shave every other day with no noticeable stubble by other people. Of course I can feel it with my hand but as long as am not rubbing me head all day I don't think about it!

SlySir you mention shaving brush and soap.  What type razor do you use?  I'm new to the SR/DE game and have both and have been practicing with both (on face), though mainly the DE.

I stumbled upon the Headblade and picked up a Sport.  It's OK.  I then picked up a Headblade ATX which I like much better.  I prefer the blades to be pulled and not pushed across my scalp it seems.  I have read that a SR or DE will shave closer than a Headblade.  I cannot speak to that yet. 

The one time I tried my DE I noted that only about the middle of the blade touched my scalp.  I was working straight from back to front following the grain.  I decided to shelve that notion and use the HB until I was more proficient in shaving my head in general.

I've been using Head Slick and it seems to do an OK job.  I do the head shaving in the shower where the mess I create is contained.

Yeah, I heard that!  Now that I'm into shaving my head I pay more attention to the Sly folks I run across.  I see guys who look totally BBS and their head is tanned to match their face so I know they have been bald for a while.  I envy that because it typically looks good on them and good in general.

I'm BBC. Every day since September 27. Sometimes every other day. I like it that way and absolutely cant stand the velcro feel.

Daily maintenance is completely trivial. I use a HB sport with KoS Gel and it takes 90 seconds or less for a WTG shave. Do it in the shower -- 90 seconds is not worth worrying about. Move past the rough feel and don't worry about it. BBS is not compulsory, takes a lot longer and sets you up for being concerned about velcro.

Chris, I use the DE when I am off and can dedicate my time to a good shave (I have a Lord DE razor and I use either Derby, Astra or Wilkinson Sword; my last two headshaves were with the Wilky) On days when I need a faster shave, I use the Headblade sport. I mix 4-6 drops of Shave Secret with a capful of Headslick and mix it with the brush. You can purchase all of these items at Walmart. All except the Shave Secret can be found at most drugstores. I just could never get into shaving my head in the shower, I like to see my head when shaving. Good luck and if you have anymore questions, ask away!

I have some shave secret that I bought at Wal-Mart.  Haven't tried it yet.  I had read that it's hard on brushes, hard to rinse out.  What has been your experience?  I have a Silvertip, a Full Badger brush and a cheapy from Wal-Mart.  The DE I'm currently using is a Merkur Futur.  I like it.  It's heavy, which I like, but have to constantly remind myself to only use the weight of the razor.  I need to do some research and get a lighter weight model so I'll have that option as well.

My first go I tried shaving my head at the sink.  Made a mess.  Felt if I was going to make a mess I should do it in the shower.  Of course that all comes back to experience and practice.  In the end I expect I'll end up either doing it at the sink or in the shower, depending.

I bought most all of the Headblade line of products as well as several others so that I can find what I like best.

All brushes are going to be hard in the beginning, they have to be broken in.....After about 10 uses or so, the bristles will soften and you should be able to mix the Shave Secret and Headslick (or whatever shaving soap/cram/gel that floats your boat) with ease. The key is having the lather be just right (not too watery) And also when using Headslick be sure to use a small amount. I still have my bottle from Christmas 2011 and I still have enough for about 10 more shaves (granted I don't shave everyday and I visit the barber once a month to get the face fur shaped/trimmed). What may work for one guy may not always work for the next, sometimes we have to experiment till we find what works best for our shaving needs. Good Luck!

I just could never get into shaving my head in the shower, I like to see my head when shaving.

I recently picked up one of those suction cup shower mirrors from Bed, Bath, and Beyond.  Best of both worlds!
