Oil or Cream
« on: June 07, 2007, 04:31:40 PM »
I am wondering if any members have tried shaving with oils like baby oils or other shaving oil vs creams? Would I get a closer shave if I used an oil instead of a shaving cream? I shave each day and by supper time I have velcro in spots.... any ideas? and I do use a Mach 3

Check out the threads under New Combo. HeadSlick and Baby Oil, mmatzick...several sly guys gave good input on using oil there.

go to the main forum page and click on "Head Shaving."  Then go to page 3.  You should see the thread "New Combo! HeadSlick and Baby Oil."  Or you can just go to the main page and click the "Search" link at the top of the page and type in "New Combo."  It should direct you to what you are looking for.

I'll tell you from my experience though that baby oil does work well under other shaving gels, creams, etc...  I use to apply a few squirts of baby oil under the HeadSlick when I first started using the HeadBlade because baby oil helps protect against nicks.  The only thing is it will leave your dome with a real oily feeling the whole day.  Which is alright if you are prone to dryness.  But I use HeadLube Glossy and that greases the dome enough.  Plus I'm good enough with the headblade now that I don't really have to worry about nicks too much.  There are other oils out there that work well.  One I know of is by King of Shaves.  They have a few different kinds but from the reviews I've heard on here the best one is called Nexium.  I tried it buy you have to keep the dome wet are it will start to dry up.  In my opinion good old plain baby oil will do the job good enough and it's way cheap.

Ok bro, watch your step there.  I'm not sure about all the rules but there may be a price to pay for questioning the "Sly."  J/K  ;D ;D ;D

In addition to baby oil, which as Lance said can leave your head oily, there are shaving oils out there that do not.  I use King of Shave Alpha Shaving Oil or King of Shaves Kinexium Shaving Oil.  However, when I use either oil, I normally don't put anything on top of it except water.

Here's my review of the Kinexium: http://www.slybaldguys.com/smf/index.php?topic=1033.0

I've also seen a shaving oil called Shave Secret... I haven't used it, but a friend of mine has and liked it.

Where to get shaving oils... try your local drugstore, Target, or Wal-Mart (although I haven't seen anything other than Shave Secret at Wal-Mart for a long time)

I tried baby oil today and I have to say I didn't like it at all. I get a much better shave with regular old cheap cream. Because everybody's different and baby oil is so cheap, my advice would be to just pick a little travel size bottle of oil and give it a shot.

oil is great for lubrication and a smooth stroke.

But the problem is that it weighs the hair shaft down. The idea behind shave creams is that they float the hair up so the razor can get under it.

I agree with Baldrob.  I've used King of Shaves and Shave Secret for years (on my face).  It works equally well on my head.  Use it with water.  Hope that helps.  I got mine at Walmart, but you can get them from the Internet.

I mix Nivea face wash and Bald Guyz ultimate shave gel and it works great...so a huge reduction of irritation as well with the combo O0
