Having a big scar on head and shaving head
« on: February 02, 2013, 10:44:33 AM »
I have a big scar on my head and I have shaved my head for over 5 years now and I am thinking about growing my hair now because I get dirty looks from people and dirty looks from interviewers when I go for a job and it seems like people automatically assume I am scum but I can assure you I am a kind hearted person and I am nice to everyone.
Do you think I should grow my hair or just stay as I am. I really don't think I suite hair but I will grow it in order for people to not think I am scum or giive me dirty looks......oh yeah quite a lot of people get scared of me because of my scar....wtf.

How do you know that's what they are reacting to? In any case, why not post a photo so we can see if you really "look like scum" or not.

Yes would agree with SlyBear, I have scars as you can see by my avitar.  I smile at people and they all smile back .  Even if I don't smile they are nice.   O0

Welcome! Here are some things to consider: 1. Is the scar bothering YOU enough that you think something needs to be done and 2. Do you enjoy having your head shaved? If the answer to the first question is yes, I would see a dermatologist or invest in some concealer. Also, if people want to distance themselves from you because of a scar on your head, those people aren't worth your time anyway. As for the second question...Stick around, you'll meet more people with scars, bumps and bruises on their heads than I care to count...All that said, good luck to you in whatever you decide.

If I where you I wouldn't worry about it. Like the other said they have scars. It doesn't matter you have been sly for so long. Don't let something that small bring you down.

I am really confused about what kind of scar would cause others to treat you poorly... Are you thinking it's location/shape makes it look like a fighting scar?  Or that people are just being rude b/c of a prejudice against imperfections? In other words, tell us more, please.

I have chicken pox scars on my face that feel very prominent to me but whenever discussing them is relevant (if I am talking to a close friend, a therapist, etc) almost always the reaction is "I didn't even notice them."

Concealer can be a godsend and is totally not just for the ladies!

Sometimes I use face powder to cover the scars and sometimes I don't.  As long as I stand up straight and make eye contact there are very few physical imperfections that can't be overcome.

I just can't imagine being nasty to someone over a scar unless, perhaps, maybe, the scar made me fear that the person wearing it was an extremely violent person.  And I'm having a hard time thinking of what kind of scar would make me think that.  I mean, the person would need to be waving a broken beer bottle towards me for me to get that thought in my head as best I can imagine right now.

At the end of the day you have to do what makes you most comfortable in your skin.   But maybe if you tell us a bit more we can provide even better advice.  This is a very resourceful community.

I have any scars from multiple brain surgeries. Forget what anyone else thinks, if you enjoy being sly, stay with it. Never conform to anyone else' perception.
