Favorite ALL TIME SONG...
« on: June 07, 2007, 03:11:53 AM »
I'm dating my middle-aged ass here...but we have threads on "tunes" "movies" PLURAL...

But what if you could pin....dammit...one song....Just one...that epitomizes a certain "era", wedding or favorite memory....or..more significantly......like me...you would have played at your funeral.

Mine is "without you" by "harry nilsson"  1970

I don't know bro?  :-\  That's a tough one...I love all kinds of music but I've always liked Jimmy Buffett and Bob Marley the best just because they make me feel good and put me in a relaxing mood.  I've always liked Bob Marley's "One Love" song because the music is so relaxing in it and more importantly it's such a feel good song as far as people coming together.  As far as my funeral I actually do have a song picked out for that which I have told the wife about.  It's by Los Lonely Boys titled "Heaven."  I love the message in it.  It's not dark or sad it's just about knowing there is a better place and how you just can't wait to get there.

Thanks, Lance...that's what I was curious about...it's easy to say "I like all kinds of music"....but, man what if you could pin down ONE song....ONE...JUST ONE....out of all the ones yer all fond of.

Hi Robmeister,

Ever since coming across it I always thought I'd like  "The Joy Of Living", sung by Roy Bailey, played at my funeral - it's a really great song originally written by Ewan MacColl but Roy Bailey's version is just awesome!

His heed was ballid, and schon as eny glas

Against the Grain by Garth Brooks.  Kinda fitting, eh?
People are not limited by the circumstance that they are born in. They are limited by the size of their dreams. Show them that their dreams can have no limits and in turn their accomplishments can be limitless.

Too hard to pick just 1 song:

What a Wonderful World - Louie Armstrong
Outta Here - Kenny Chesney
Four Horsemen - Metallica
Come Monday - Jimmy Buffett
Los Cabos - The Rippingtons
Luck be a Lady - Frank Sinatra
Mainstreet - Bob Seger

Yeah, that's my favorite song.

Man what a tough question. I'll list songs that mean allot to me. They were probably my favorite song when something big/emotional was going on in my life.

I would say, performer first, then song.
1. Peter Gabriel, Come Talk to Me
2. Peter Gabriel, In Your Eyes (played at my wedding).
3. New Order, Blue Monday (off of either Low Life or Power, Corruption, and Lies)
4. Duran Duran, New Religion
5. Duran Duran, The Seventh Stranger

I think I can make a better list via albums:
1. Peter Gabriel, US -- I think it's the worlds all time best album. It is very introspective. Also, for me, it's both sad and uplifting. I've had amazing journeys with this tape.
2. Duran Duran, First self-titled album (I skipped prom, and went to the beach with this girl who had dropped out of another high school in town. We went to a Gay bar and danced the night away (Rich's in Houston, it was all the rage in 1985-86-- amazing in the "new music" scene). After it closed that night, we drove a hour to the beach. We only had this tape, so we just kept playing it over and over all night long. It was cold, so we put the windows down and turned up the heater in the car. We stayed out all night and walked along the sand. In the morning when I took her home, I took her to her brother's apartment so her mom wouldn't know that she had been out all night with a guy).

Lately, I've been listening to allot of Aimee Mann. I've seen her twice. I've seen Peter Gabriel twice and Duran Duran once.

Anything on "The Big Chill" Soundtrack
