Good luck, Switchy! Guess we won't get to see that face for a while

All joking aside, God's speed and a swift recovery!

Thanks guys ! This could be awhile, unless I find a hockey mask. At least I will be ready for Halloween.

Not the upper head, but from the Imperial Neck, done with "Mohs surgery" and micro-stitching after. Not a trace of where it was is to be seen nowadays.
Wish you well on the same, although perhaps it's a more dicey location.
BTW: Moh's is quite expensive, but if your insurance will cover it, go for it!

Thanx, Ming never heard of this. Will look it up . Be glad when it is over with. To much sun on the old face when I was young.

I have several areas on my scalp, face and hands where I have actinic ketatosis which can be a precursor for squamous cell carcinoma. I hope to treat some of them this southern winter. I have had moles excised on my temple which turned out well -- you can't tell that anything was done.
We are of a similar age and like you have had too much sun exposure. When I was a kid in Australia there wasn't really even such a thing as sunscreen [just sunoil to make you tan better] and it was completely normal and expected to get burned and peel a couple of times each summer.
SCC usually turns out well if it is treated early so everything will likely be fine. If there is any scaring it will just add more character to your face.
Younger guys: Wear sunscreen and a hat.

All the best Switchy, it's amazing how small the scars can be now

Had a quarter-sized piece of basal cell removed from my forehead a few years ago. It really wasn't too bad. 2 different cuts, though. The doc took out the first (large) piece and sent that to the lab. They found a "finger" had grown out at "6 o'clock" and so another piece had to be removed and sent to the lab. They found at that point that they had gotten it all and the doc stitched me up but I had to sit about 2 hours with a gaping hole in my dome. The scar is almost invisible.

Thanks again for the support . Guess there is not much I can do about it , just get it taken care of. But it is a good example of wearing sunscreen . Also I see many people my age walking around with bandages all over their faces, and no one even has to ask where they have been .

Again thanks.

I have SCQ. I had two spots removed by creme from the side of my neck a couple of years ago. They returned and them surgically removed a year and a half ago. Just had my checkup Tuesday, one and a half years cancer free-3 1/2 until remission.

I hope this post will also serve as a reminder (but particularly some of us more mature folk) to have an annual exam by a dermatologist.
So many things can be resolved through early detection, and the treatments today are often quick will few lasting marks.
