Benlen ON AIR on WRBB Boston Radio
« on: January 21, 2013, 08:47:27 AM »
Hey fellas,

Thought I'd tune you all in to the news that this sly guy is doing college radio once more! As a graduate student at Northeastern University in Boston, I jumped at the chance to do a radio show.

One of my major reasons for doing college radio is my conviction that my generation really doesn't understand or appreciate good music.

I'm working one step at a time to cure this problem by making young people in college aware of the following genres: Classic Rock, 80s New Wave, Rock inspired folk, 60s pop (better than today's pop!), etc, etc.

At my last college radio gig, I had to hear a lot of DJs playing the same modern crap that is overly auto-tuned and lacking in some serious talent.

My show runs on Fridays 12-2pm eastern time, which is inconvenient for listening in some time zones! But if any of you guys ever get bored around lunch hour (or whatever hour!) feel free to listen in!

Note: I'm not sure if our streaming capability is worldwide.

Also, this week's show will be my first show in this studio, which is much more advanced than the studio at my undergrad school, so there might be a few technical hiccups the first time! But I hope my good radio voice and good tunes make up for it!

My show: Dirigo in the Headlights
12-2pm, ET, FRIDAYS
WRBB 104.9 BOSTON

Listen Online:

On-Air Schedule:

http://wrbbradio.org/schedule/

I also will take suggestions on favorite tunes that you might want to hear/have represented on the show within the genres I specified, but I'm also open to other genres of music if it is something that is really awesome and worth broadcasting to the world. Please write them below!

Very nice, Ben. I'm a big Classic Rock guy. I was also a big fan of 80's "Progressive" music..... mayb that's what you are refeerring to as New Wave. Bands like DePeche Mode, The Smithes, Modern English, InXS, etc.

FYI... I tried streaming using both speeds and received the message "The remote device or resource won't accept the connection. Looks like a no go from Pa.

Very cool Ben!  I studied in a few audio production/radio classes in college and they were some of my favorites.  I even got to do a couple ad spots on air!

Thank you for trying to expose our generation to real music.  Today's popular music makes me want to cry.

Damn, sorry to hear that streaming isn't working––there have been some changes to the Eboard at Northeastern, so I'll bring this to their attention.

And yeah, when I said New Wave, I was referring to bands like Modern English...and I LOVE InXS! Strangest Party is one of my favorite tracks of theirs, though that was from the 90s.

Rock inspired folk...ever listen to Terri Hendrix?

http://www.terrihendrix.com/

She's a friend of the family and has roots in country. She's a talented musician and great person.
One of my favorite songs is a cover of LL Cool J's "I Need Love" off of her 2004 release "The Art of Removing Wallpaper".

Good job,

I'd try and listen but I think it might be in the middle of the night here on the other side of the world :)

Fun, another DJ on here.

I worked in radio in Alaska for 23 years.  Engineer, DJ, Sales, the works.  Small station, everyone does everything.

Still do occasional voice work for radio or video narration. But now someone else writes the script. I have have to voice it and make it sound interesting. That's the easy part.

Have fun on the air.

Really? Where in Alaska? My father is from Alaska, grew up in Anchorage, spent two years at Fairbanks for school before transferring to the lower 48.

Wow... another sly DJ here in MA... I'm on WMFO (out of tufts) every Saturday night from 7-9 PM EST
My specialty is Boston based music....of all kinds but mostly rock, which may or may not make you cry (Yes, it's modern... but some of it's really good, IMO. And besides, there's ALWAYS a wink and a nod to the past on my show.)

http://www.wmfo.org  <=== on there, you can find links to the Schedule (I'm "The Dweezil Show") and a link to listen live. :)
