Minor skin irritation, most likely if they show up after the shave then fade away over time.  Try rinsing  very well with cold water after cleaning off any remaining shaving creme and oil, then dry & wipe down with an astringent like witch hazel.  Then, to control redness quickly, I get a lot of success from 1% hydrocortizone lotion (not creme formulation--so thick it's hard to rub in) from the pharmacy, ask the counter.  Finally, top off with a little Balm etc. if you feel you need that much.

I'm gonna second the recommendation of witch hazel. It's cheap and effective.

I agree. I use Thayer's.

I usually rub an ice cube over my head after shaving.....breakouts are few and far between since.....you can do this in addition to the witch hazel.
