Hello all.

So I'm a new member. Age 27. Been balding for a while, so I've been lurking for a while as well. I decided not to join until I felt a bit better about going bald as I didn't want to use the site to vomit my feelings everywhere constantly. I'm sure you know the score. This site is awesome so I didn't want to moan everywhere, which is what seems to happen on every other site on baldness I could find (I don't know how anyone could feel good about balding by joining them - every other post is about baldness being ugly and it being the end of the world - stupidity!)
Anyway, I originally started typing this out for use in the relationships section as everything that I can say about going bald will eventually lead back to my whether I can find a girlfriend or not, so even if I seem to veer all over the place with this post, please be assured that the only reason I'm even thinking about the balding is because of concern on the dating front. I can't see any other way in which it would possibly affect me to be honest (if it affects me at all).
That said, I'm at a strange point in the journey to baldness. I'm yet to go sly and I know I eventually will, but until then I've chosen to wear my hair short and forget about it. After all, I can't see my hair unless there's a mirror in front of me (hence my screen name), so it's easy to do. As a result I've made various observations that surprise me: Firstly, I like my receded hairline and I think it's dignified (as do a lot of people, so I guess it must suit me) and it's gotten to the extent that I'm sad it won't stay that way forever (strange, right? I guess it's because I never had good hair before it receded anyway). Secondly, I'm the only one who cares that I'm going bald and even women that seem to be interested in me don't seem to have noticed. Thirdly, though I was horrified when I first noticed my hair thinning all those years ago now you eventually get used to the idea because you have to!
Hehe, you know what. I'm going to leave it at that for now. I could write for hours about everything that's gone through my head about going bald, so I'll leave that for the respective message boards when the time is right.
So hello to you all. You seem like a good bunch. Can't promise I'll be a regular poster here, but I'll certainly drop in for a word from time to time.

Welcome bro. I hope you do get around to trying the fully sly look. There's no other feeling quite like it. Trust me. You will NOT have to worry about women liking it. The number of ladies out there who go for us baldies is way ahead of those who will deal with the furry toilet seat look. Just go for it, and be prepared for a lot of extra looks, head rubs, and the occasional head lick (maybe that's just my girl, who knows).

Welcome to SBG!
In today's world women (anyone for that matter) care more about what's in your head than what's on it.

Cheers guys. A few years ago I wouldn't have agreed with you, but as time has gone on I've started to see what you're talking about. Meeting women that like the bald look has helped (as has getting more attention the shorter I've kept the hair and the more hair I've lost - though I concede the latter is bizarre as 'balding' isn't normally what gets attention
) I'm at a point where, when I'm talking to a woman, I don't think about my hair at all and whilst I don't have the best confidence my hairline is not what's controlling me.
But yes, thanks for the kinds words!
EDIT: And yes, should they eventually come my way, I will welcome those headrubs!

Welcome NHiS.
If you've been doing a good job of lurking, then you've seen lots of threads stating the concern about meeting women.
And if you've also been doing a good job of lurking, then you've encountered lots of post-shave threads that the concern actually turned out not to be an issue.
Don't let that be justification to keep you from shaving, if that's what you want to try.
You may very well find that shaving gives you a new tier of confidence you would never have expected.
And then you can write a post how your concerned was not an issue and leave it for all future lurkers to discover.
It's really another example of the circle of sly.

Welcome! Sounds like it has been on your mind a great deal. If sly is something you are interested in I would encourage you to give it a try. It's very empowering to take matters into your own hand so to speak.
Cheers!

G'day mate, welcome to the family. You may not be sly, or considering it as an immediate future thing, but you are still more then welcome to hang around, contribute as often as you like, and the day you decide to go sly, surprise us with a pic

Welcome on Board and great intro
I agree with you about the forums.
About the mirrors. I saw an interview with a (bald) guy who had an accident which left him a long visible scar on his head.
He said something like well, i have this ugly scar nowand people might wonder and such, but i don't care, I can't see it anyways.

Welcome, NHIS....I can relate to your situation, as I started receding about age 26. I never let it get to me; I still dated even after going sly! Stay strong and good luck when/if you go sly.

Cheers again guys. I shall indeed let you know when I go the sly route. I have no choice but to rock the bald look, so rock it I shall!
I should add that I'm in a good place with the hair loss. My post, as I was originally posting it in the relationships section, probably makes me seem more concerned with the issue than I actually am as I was trying to keep it on a particular topic (it always sounds like you're more upset about something than you actually are when you post on a message board, but maybe that's just me). Sure it's a concern, but it's not something I really think about any more (hence my decision to introduce myself I guess) and I'm sure I'll still find the right woman anyway (you're right Frontier Guy, my lurking has indeed uncovered many good stories in the area of going sly).
In fact the only thing annoying me about balding now is people approaching me at work questioning me every time I reshave my hair to a short length. It's the dead of winter after all, and my bosses keep on calling me insane.
PS: Thanks to my user name I'm going to have to get used to people abbreviating it to NHiS - I keep having to re-read your posts as I keep thinking you're talking about the NHS. Not to worry though.
