Over the holidays I quit shaving my face with the idea that I'd try a 'stache of some shape and variety. Yesterday when it became a case of my face getting cleaned and shaved or I'd lose my mind I started on the project which consisted of taking out all the parts that didn't, to me, look like what I want. What I've got is an arrangement in silver, white and gray fur that runs across my upper lip, descends straight to my jawbone and stops there. My deeply dimpled filled chin is clean, just the geometrical lines down and the thatch on the roof. Anyone have suggestions as to what works out to be a good thickness? I've thought about running a line along my jaw line to my lower ear lobe but...with a shaved head I'm concerned that it doesn't look so much as it intentionally stopped as just ended.
Also, and this is a big one, how long before I can really ascertain how it will look? Right now we could discuss the word "straggly" but that would be the next step up.
Thanks!
Wow, I knew I had something in mind and you've nailed it. In those times it was the Namath Horse Shoe but that's precisely it.
Remember from decades ago when, in the New Yorker, there was a cartoon in which one man, with a moustache, is saying to another, "I was the first one to have a Fu Manchu at Chase Manhattan".
Now for the second part, how long before I can tell what it will really look like , how full I should let the fur grow? The etceteras that make the difference.
Here's me with a Fu Manchu, with Alton Brown, and prior to going sly.
Do you still have that shirt ^ ^ ^

I do!
And a few other "hot chile" shirts as well!

That's a tough one to answer. It's sort of based entirely on what you think is "full enough" but as a general rule I'd say anywhere from 3 to 4 weeks and you'll normally have a pretty good point of reference.
