Facebook account deletion.

Yup, I finally did it. The reason is that on 12-6-12 someone hacked my account and changed the password. This is the second time something like this has happened and, to be honest, the FB activity that I am involved in is not worth the trouble.

Anyone else had this problem? Did you delete your account or did you take another route.?

I have an account and I'm not a big fan of FB. I actually got rid of over 50 "Friends" in October. I was sick of all the hateful political crap my "Friends" were posting.

I will say this... during my Dad's final weeks, FB was an invaluable tool for me, my Family, and my REAL Friends. I could post updates on Dad and everyone knew to look on FB to get the updates. No making 20 calls like in the old days. It was also very cathartic for me to be able to post to my Friends but not actually have to talk to anyone.

I ended up closing my original account (though I can reactivate it at any time) and opened a new one last year. I find that as long as you don't get involved in all of those games and apps, the account has less chance of being hacked. Also unless you absolutely know and WANT to be friends with people sending you friend requests, you don't have to accept every friend request you receive. I think that was my mistake with my first account which is inactive. I may just close that account permanently and just start over with the new one. Personally, I like it to keep in touch, but I don't care to know every waking detail of people who seem to have nothing better to do....BTW, I am FB friends with a few guys on here and find it kind of cool!

I'm a lightweight in the FaceBook world.

That said, I have three FB accounts:
1 for work which is incredibly convenient for swapping work shifts and such
1 for "public" which receives all the various friend/game requests (which go ignored)
1 for "private" me - which has only 7 friends (I'm fine with that) and I only check it every 2 or 3 weeks

It serves its purpose.

FB is an updated MySpace IMHO... Too much frivolous stuff being posted. As did Mike, I deleted quite a few folks in the couple of months. The political trife was ridiculous, not to mention I don't want to read every... single... thing your doing.

Another thing to add: Too many people worry about the QUANTITY of their friends list and not the quality. People should only add people who they feel they will keep in touch with long term, not add them just to boost up their friends count. I've defriended and have been defriended and I just chalk it up and move on when it happens on either end. DISCLAIMER: I will NEVER defriend any of my family or SBG friends, though I must admit that this site has helped me get on Facebook a lot less (that's a good thing )

I love Facebook.  I don't play games though.  I love to decorate and am part of groups on there.  I have made many close friends, and caught up with old friends also.  I have got photos of my home on there.  Yes, I am in a couple of them and it is opened.  I find it fun but some people do take it overboard.  When my Mom was real sick and was dying it was a great tool.  It can be useful if used right.

I used to hit up FB like a crack pipe. I had to read every post so I didn't miss anything. Then I went on a few weekend camping trips and one week long camping trip. That time away changed my perspective on FB. I didn't feel the need to catch up on what I missed while I was away.

I do still keep up with it fairly regularly but I don't feel the need to get caught up to the point when I last checked it. And, if I want to see how someone close is doing I just go directly to their page to get caught up.

Like Mike, I do find that it is an invaluable tool to reach out to a large number of close friends and family when needed just because so many people have accounts.

It is also how I've made most of my money with my survival bracelets so I don't be deleting my account any time soon.

With proper friend list maintenance and a good FB browser extenstion (Social Fixer), FB isn't as bad as it used to be. The hide feature helps too!  Some people use FB as their political/social issues soap box a little too much for my tastes.

I change my PW every month or so, I will not delete my account simply because I friends world wide.  Most of my friends are connected with photography in some way.  I don't get into the drama, I have deleted a few over their passion for drama that is political or other wise. 

You can control what you see from friends or associated people by groups, again you can choose who and what you see.

If you like you can un-subscribe from those you want, but still click on their name to see them if you want.

*another Facebook fan here* I dont play games..I dont have the patience to cultivate a teeny tiny farm! but I like connecting with friends in other countries on it, putting up photo's etc. I dont do Twitter like the cool kids, just FB!

I had my account hacked once, and changed my password. I click "ignore" on a fair amount of guff I dont want bothering with!

Yeah, I've still got a Facebook page. Been there for just over three years now. It's basically been a good thing because it has allowed me re-establish contact with friends and teachers from high school. I check in almost every morning but I rarely post anything, I don't the patience for the mindless games and I never respond to invitations or requests.

I love facebook. It allows me to keep in touch with people I can't see often and still feel part of their lives.

Facebook is for people I know, whereas I tweet random rubbish to strangers on twitter

I use Facebook, but I refuse all app and game requests, and I will not use the option to log into other sites using your Facebook credentials. I like the ability to stay connected to friends, but that's about it.

I am not a huge facebook fan, and only got it when I finished uni in order to keep up with all my friends there. These days I use it too keep up with local metal shows as well, and my friends list is pretty extensive, but they are all people that I like to chat with, or at least keep in touch with. All those games and stuff aren't worth my time... and over the years I've been able to block out most of the trash. But people always find something new for me to block! haha
