I have some questions for the experts:
1. How do I avoid the shine after shaving? (I think I almost blinded someone)

I found this:

How do I keep my head from getting shiny after I shave it?
Again, I've got to thank Shad for these suggestions, although they're not without their downsides. Shu Umera Cosmetics makes a base cosmetic called "Nobera" which will obscure shine. Smash Box makes a base cosmetic called "Anti-shine" particularly formulated to obscure shine. And, of course, the simplest solution is just an oil-absorbent translucent face powder. The downside to all of these? Well, there's a good chance with any of these that you could look like you're wearing makeup (because you are). In addition, using too much can result in lines or cracking in the makeup which looks even worse.

Personally, I'd go with mrzed and embrace the shine.

Welcome to the forum Richie. Try some HeadLube Matte by HeadBlade. Works well for dampening the shine.  O0

G'day mate, welcome to the family.

I've got some great information so far, if your face is feeling naked then by all means, grow out your facial hair and experiment a bit to see what you like best, personally I love a Van Dyke (most people would call it a goatee) or the full beard.

In turns of the shine, you've got some great tips, if you forum search for "shine" or "matte" you'll find heaps of other suggestions, this is actually a pretty commonly asked question, so there should be heaps of information at your disposal!
