Headslick am I missing something?

I have used Headslick a few times and compared to the Nivea sensitive shaving gel that I use, I am not impressed.  I am not saying that it is bad, it seems to be pretty decent.  But I feel that it does not protect my head as much and seems to disappear way too fast on my head.  The Nivea seems to coat my head longer.  So am I missing something?  I really want to like the stuff like I love their other products.  Everyone else seems to love Headslick which is why I am baffled as to why I have not had a better experience with it.  Any thoughts?

I agree with you. Not only does it dissipate way too quickly, but the liquid in my bottle has taken on a strange "bitty" quality for some reason.  I'll finish this bottle because I'm loath to throw it away, but I definitely wouldn't buy it again.

I'm a fan of it TBH.

 I use a fair dollop and lots of water. I like it because even if it appears there is none on my head, if I wet my hand and rub all over the dome it's still there.

I will totally agree that it provides next to zero cushion as a lather less cream, as opposed to a regular shave cream/soap. But it's super slick.

But as always YMMV......do whatever works for you

I agree about it seeming to absorb quickly like on the back of my head by the time I get there it seems gone. At times it seems to work great but the gritty stuff seems to be an issue when you get lower in the bottle of it. Have used Edge on occasion and have to say just the feel of the richer gel is a good feeling rubbed on the head.

I've used Headslick for over 5 years... until just recently. I finished my last bottle about a month ago. No more for me.... I've started using higher quality shave soaps and LOVE them. They cost only a small bit more than Headslick, they have better quality ingredients, and I get amazing shaves with them. As a bonus the scents are simply remarkable.

I agree with Blue Briz...... after you've had it a while it does seem to get "grainy"... not sure why.

I really like the RazoRock line of soaps. I also LOVE Cella. Mike's Natural Soaps makes a nice line of soaps too..... though I've only tried one of them. It was outstanding.

Do NOT be put off by the fact that they are in Canada. Service and prices are both EXCELLENT!!!

I recommend the RazoRock XXX (if you can find it) and RazoRock Classic (smells very much like Cella). Get yourself a shave brush for whipping up and applying these soaps. No need to spend a lot of money on a brush..... I bought a Vulfix badger hair for just over $20.

I am a big fan of Headslick, it suits my head and the way I shave with the Headblade ATX.
As Lynchy said it's superslick. and yes it does look like there is no cushion of lather but it works just fine.
I have tried to lather it up more using a shaving brush and it lathers up great but you lose the slickness.

So I will continue to us Headslick and my ATX on my scone and Bluebeards Revenge Shaving Cream and Pre-Shave Oil on my face

Headslick works well for me when mixed with something else and a shaving brush.....Inexplicably, I can never get it to do the job alone (always had to mix in Shave Secret or baby oil for whatever reason). Maybe the company could take a look at slightly tweaking the product so the issues that you guys had won't happen....my 0.02

Mikekoz, I will definitely have to check that site out.   Thank you for telling me about it.  One question though, does the shave soap prevent irritation as much as a good cream or gel.?  

SlySirHarry, I actually have some shave secret at the house right now.  Maybe I will try it with the Headslick to see how it does.  Do you put it on first or mix it with your Headslick?

Any of those creams will perform significantly better than any canned goo IMHO.

Should leave you with an irritation free shave, you just need to get a brush to d the lathering

Kevin, I usually mix 4-6 drops of Shave secret with a capful of Headslick in the shaving bowl. Then I apply the the mixture with a shaving brush. Remember, you only need a small amount of Headslick; a bottle can last you a year or longer. It also works well on my face when I shave there. Like Mike and Lynchy said, shaving soaps are better, however when you are short on time, Headslick and Shave Secret can give you a nice shave IMO. I pass the brush with the mixture once ATG, then again for WTG. Also, make sure your Headslick bottle is closed tightly; air can make it less effective. Good Luck, and Happy New Year!

Hi Kevin:  I am with Mikekoz & Lynchy.  From my experience shave soaps are better.  A quality shave soap will also provide better glide, cushion during your shave.

It will also moisturize better.  The scents on shave soaps are also out of this world.  My two current favorite shave soaps are Mike's Natural Soap & Mystic Water Soap.  Both provide great cushion and glide while shaving.  It leaves your skin feeling great and smelling great also.

I can not say more positive things about shave soaps.  From Mike's review on the Cella... I ordered one and cannot wait to try it out when it arrives.

Like any shaving cream or gel, your success with it it going to vary depending on different factors.  For example, if you have hard water vs soft water creams will perform well.  HeadSlick is one of the few that I've found that will actually perform well in both hard and soft water. 

I have hard water, which means creams don't lather up as much and HeadSlick does a great job.  I've also found that when I visit my brother in LA, he has soft water and HeadSlick works great.  This is one of the reasons that I only use HeadSlick and Shaving Oils when traveling.  I've had too many other shaving creams fall apart in soft water and not provide the protection that I need.

I'm definitely a HeadSlick guy - right from the bottle to the scalp (and just a little). It does dissipate quickly but I find just a few drops of water will revive it quite nicely. One bottle lasts be a little over six months.
