Welcome Markus, it is very common for that reaction from mother's or others quite close to you. It is your decision though and go with what feels right.

That is a good idea for a new thread -- I second that. Since shaving my noggin I've spent quite a bit of time wondering why it's an easy transition for some and not quite so easy for others, notwithstanding reactions from other people. I'm sure that your mother will come around when she sees that becoming streamlined has made you happier which I reckon will be the case.

Mind you, from your pic you still seem to have plenty of hair so if it doesn't work out for you just let it grow back and keep slickness as a backup plan for the future when and if it becomes "necessary". Having shaved it once at least you will know that you look great bald [nearly every man does] and so you won't have to live with any anxiety about "having" to shave it in the future.

Having just broken up with your girlfriend of 3 years just a month ago I imagine that things could be a bit difficult at times. It's amazing how attached and connected we are to partners -- I notice that we don't really notice how connected until we separate.

In between girlfriends might be a good time to try going slick. A new start for you. It wouldn't surprise me if it gave you more confidence [as it has to me] and this will be noticed and reacted to by the ladies. Could be one of the best thing you ever did. It can be very liberating.

I think that Mothers tend to think of us in one way..but once they see that you react in the same ways, etc. they begin to accept the new, bald you. You can also think of it the other way 'round, where once your hair was neat & well-kept & then its shoulder-length, and the clothes are different -this is what happened in the '70s, but that's another story..

so, my hair is getting shorter and shorter everytime i go to the barber, last time 8mm now 6mm and then the hair on top will get shorter everytime so I can slowly get comfortable with the idea of me getting all bald but it wont be long, but it sure need some time to get used to it

my uncle told me I should stop worrying about pseudo problems  and he's right - but changing self-defeating thought patterns takes time

maybe we could start a survey to find out why for some it is easier and for some it is harder to go bald

Markus, you should be quite pleased with your progress. You'll get there ... and then wonder what took you so long!

As to your question, "why is it easier for some":

Not always, but I think it is probably quite related to age.

Andrei and Crusher (and others) are great examples of young guys who have gone sly (for whatever reason) with great confidence and success. But they are somewhat rare.

And then there's the rest of us :-)

Older folks have more life experience to use when dealing with a change such as going sly. The older you are, the more likely you are to have gone through other major life events which make going sly less significant.

Which is not to say it's always easy ... just easier for some.  For me the issue wasn't (and still isn't) hair loss but I really wanted to lose the gray. I'm a simple guy and couldn't be bothered with hair dye and all that. In the end, it wasn't losing hair .... it was gaining the freedom from graying. That's probably why I could go from hair to bald immediately and not have a second thought. And still haven't.

Yeah, the tall, good-lookin' bald guy ... that's me (versus the old guy with the gray hair). Of course, none of it matters to anyone else; it's all about me in this case.

Welcome to Sly bald Guys.

For me, going sly has helped me build my self esteem.

It took me awhile to go completely sly. I went for about 10 months with a short buzz that kept getting shorter until i got the razor out and went completely sly.

I really love the sly smooth and shiny dome.

Good luck on your decision. I am sure that you will like it once you give it a try. If not, You can always grow your hair back.

Markus do it at your own pace, I do think everytime you post a pic you look better with shorter hair and I am not someone who says "go sly for the sake of it". If I didnt think the shorter look was working I'd be honest!
