I'm 22 y-o and live in France. I had very "afro" hair, which made natural dreadlocks when I left them grow (even if i'm not black at all), it was weird. During last year, I made the first step into baldness : i switched to a high and tight haircut, which i refreshed every 3 days more or less. I noticed I really loved to razor shave the sides and back of my head.

As a medical student, it was finally quite a little difficult to sport this haircut because I was nearly the only one with that at hospital, and because this cut is really negatively considered by people in France, because it's nearly exclusively associated to thugs, and other people (even soldiers) don't often have a high and tight. Though, i really loved the way i looked with it...

Finally, this brought me to change again my haircut. I couldn't imagine having a regular short buzzcut, i was too much used to the "half baldness" of my high and tight, so i just tried to clip all with no guard. I kept this about 2 weeks (refreshing it twice). Last time i was clipping my hair was 10 days ago. I decided it was time to do what i wanted. I felt that, in some way, i "needed" to try to shave it. That's what i did.

I loved my new look, i found it even better than the high and tight i had before. I then found this website, thanks to all of you because it helped me to confirm my decision. It's hard to find the look that suits you the best, but now I'm really sure this one is for me, and I love to be bald My previous hairstyle was good too, and it already helped me feeling confident, as it spread the message "i don't give a f**k about what you think about my look", but i still had to listen people telling me that it was too agressive, those kind of things. Being completely bald is finally easier with my hospital work (i get less comments), and I really feel good with my bald head, it's some kind of liberation, an "ultimate step" to get rid of hair concerns, and it's really easier to keep fresh than a high and tight haircut.

Anyway, there are lots of bald mature men in France, but finally few young men, and I'm really proud I did it. In my mind, I don't think there's any turning back. I discovered something i won't give up. That's been now 10 days and I shave my head every morning under the shover (the first 2 times were in front of the mirror, but it's easier in the shower for me). I saw some guys here shave only with the grain. I may be lucky, but i shave against the grain everyday, and i don't get any drawback, and I really prefer when it's smooth. The truth is I can't accept any hair on my head anymore.

To finish, you may have noticed that I didn't talk about any hairloss problems on me. That's because I have none. I have a full head of hair so far. It may change someday (my father started to loose his hair really fast at 25-26), but I don't mind, I did the choice to be bald and I have absolutely no plan on letting my hair grow anymore. I'll wait the "30 days" to be past before considering myself as BBC, but I'm pretty sure I'll keep bald and proud of it (Only hoping the shadow could disappear)

Great introduction ... and terrific display of self-confidence. We've had some other folks from France express the same observations that shaved is quite negatively perceived. It's just gonna take a few more like yourself to break that perception.

I'm glad you've joined the forum - hope you will contribute regularly. Your experience is important to others your age who are worried about going through with it.

Perhaps it is a cultural thing but I have noticed when travelling in France that very few men, especially young men, have shaved heads.  It is quite different in other countries of Europe and a shaved head is now commonplace in Australia.

Keep up the look and maybe you will start a trend.

BTW, I don't know if it's the right place to ask, but I wondered if it could work with Magic Smooth depilatory cream. Did anybody try, and does it take longer to grow after that than after razor shaving ? I'm a little annoyed by my skull looking like a velcro before the end of the day and I'm searching for some solution...

Thanks & welcome. Here in the U.S., shaved-heads are commonplace. Buzzcuts (such as the HnT) are associated w/soldiers & are viewed mostly positively, though these days anyone wears one (used to be only those in the Military). I, myself wore various buzzcuts before I setteled on being 'bald'. I had longer hair & was never satisfied w/it, so it was a natural 'progression' to short & shorter. Though I think that you're experience was far shorter then mine!

That stuff stinks and is a total waste of money... Don't bother; save your money and get a good razor.
