I remember years ago having to work the street on Thanksgiving Day in Waukegan, IL. It was a day that I would much rather have been home enjoying the company of my family over a hot turkey dinner.
Instead I had to be out on the road answering 10-16s. Having to referee a family fight on a day like this is depressing at best. I used to love arresting people out of domestic disputes on Thanksgiving. "You ruin my day, I'll ruin yours" was my thought as I was locking the cell door behind them.
If there's one thing that I'm thankful for on this day it's that I don't have to do that anymore.
A most sincere Happy Thanksgiving to all my brothers and sisters in Blue on this holiday. Although the 10-16s are a pain in the a$$, and even moreso on this day, always remember that you are better than they are. And yes, it is because of who you are and what it is that you do.
I can relate and know how you felt working and being away from family on holidays. ...been there and it's not a good feeling, but we had to do it...
