Hey all!
« on: November 22, 2012, 10:52:02 AM »
How's it going? I'm new here and to shaving my dome. I've been buzzing my head for a whole now but decided to go bald a few nights ago. I'm using a Mach3 Turbo. The process was long, annoying and bloody. I went with the grain until I realized I wasn't completely bald. So then I went against the grain and I got plenty of razor burns.I'm currently shaving my head again because the stubble is pretty annoying! I'm a little hesitant to go against the grain because I don't want any new burns and cuts. But I really want a nice, smooth bald head. Any tips for a newbie?

Welcome Rino,

You might want to try a pre-shave oil like Shave Secret - massage a few drops onto your scalp before putting on shaving lotion. It will significantly reduce razor burn.

Go easy on shaving ... it will get much easier and faster as time passes.

You might want to just go "With the Grain" [WTG] the first week to allow your scalp a bit of time to adapt to this new attention it is receiving.

Did anything in particular prompt you to begin buzzing ... or was it just a style which appealed to you?

Thanks for the tips! As for why I suddenly began buzzing my head. I've always wanted to buzz my head but I just never went through with it. I was at the barber getting fixed up after a botched haircut and I asked the guy if I could pull it off and then he just suddenly began shaving. So, I was in the bathroom one night and said to myself, I should shave all my hair off. And that is when it began. I really wish I could shave with the grain and was able to get rid of the stubble. That would make things very easy.

Hey mate welcome to the family, just take it easy for the next couple of weeks and your head will get accustomed to the new routine and it should clear up nicely

What's your per-shave prep?  What kind of shave soap or cream are you using?

Welcome to the club mate!

Have you looked into getting a HeadBlade?  I use the ATX, and so far I have had yet to have any irritation from it.

Also make sure you rinse the blade with hot water, hot blades shave easier.

Slapping some moisturizer on your noggin also helps cut down on irritation.  I use HeadLube, but any will be better than none.

Good luck mate!

Welcome...take your time and prepare your whiskers with a hot wash, a little oil and then your gel or soap. Go with the grain until your head feels better...it ain't a race. Good luck.

Since i'm new to this, all I do is get my head wet with warm water, and then I lather up with shaving cream by Pure Silk (I ran out of my shaving cream and I randomly found this under my sink) and get started.

You might want to try after a shower, or even during.  Your hair will be softer and easier to shave.

I find the biggest problem is using too much pressure.  Don't need to with the newer shaving equipment.

Welcome Rino,

I always shave after a show (like other guys suggested already) and works for me.
Apply some of the tips you received and let us know how it's going.

Hi Rino,

I used a Mach III for years, but wanted to try something new.  I bought a Gillette ProGlide and it works great.  I am smoother for a longer period of time.  I shave in the shower with a fogless mirror.  Give it a try and let us know how it goes.

G'Day Rino,
Welcome to the Sly Brotherhood.
Like others have mentioned, take it easy for the first couple of weeks, let your head get use to the new experience. Don't use too much pressure and always moisturise your scone to keep it looking good.
