Shaving help for a black shaver
« on: November 12, 2012, 02:04:05 PM »
Hello everyone! I came across your site and was so impressed with your feedback, I had to become a member. Anyway, I Am a black bald shaver and have been shaving now for about 2 years. I have within the last 6 months or so changed from the Headblade shaver with head-slick shave scream to an electric shaver from Wahl especially made for black user who suffer with razor bumps. I loved the Headblade system but suffered my third cut, the last one was more of a gash because I sneezed in the shower while shaving. It shaved very close but I could not deal with possibility of being cut again. This electric shaver is good but could never shave as close as the razor.

My question to anyone on this site but primarily black shavers, is it worth taking the chance to receive the occasional nic vs a little stubble on a daily shave using the electric shaver. I feel just a bit more secure but I admit, I miss the close shave from the razor. The shaver is adequate but I guess I just need to know how others feel.....

Thanks guys and again, this site is awesome!

Welcome to the Forum!

An occasional nick is worth the closer daily shave in my opinion. There are a lot of good choices, as far as razors go, for head shaving. Don't deprive yourself!!!!!

Welcome, mlnj51.  O:O

I would suggest PM'ing SirSlyHarry12. He's black, sly, and very supportive. He can speak to certain things I can't for obvious reasons!  ;D

For what it's worth, I think the slicker the better. Nothing beats the feeling of a clean, smooth scalp. Plus, as your technique improves, nicks should become a thing of the past. Just, don't sneeze next time!

All the best,
Schro

Thanks guys! I will definitely send a PM to "SirSlyHarry12" to see what he recommends.....and by the way, it was more of a combination hiccup with a sneeze that caused the gash....it left a serious mark. Don't take this as a bad thing but when you have big black bald head, a white gash is NOT a look you want to present....that is the ONLY time black and white should NOT co-exist......

Thanks guys

Welcome! As an almost year-long member here, I have learned a lot in my time here. What works best for me and prevents bumps is to get Shave Secret pre-shave oil from Walmart. All you need is 3-5 drops to mix in with your Headslick. (which I've used the last three headshaves). Also, consider investing in a shaving brush; the shaving brush spreads your lather better giving you a close shave. Bump Patrol is good to have, it clears up bumps in three days or less. If you have anymore questions, feel free to PM me. Good luck!

P.S. A septic pencil will help for the occasional nick (didn't read your original question all the way through, my bad)

Thanks SirSlyHarry12, you responded before I had a chance to PM you....still trying to figure out how to do that too....I guess you are telling me to face my fears and go back to the Headblade......I guess I will do that. Just so you know, I never had a bumping issue and shaving was ok aside from the occasional nic that left a white scar until healed.....the shaver was just a safer shave but never as close. Initially smooth but within the next hour, stubble would appear. Thanks and I'm sure we will chat again....

Welcome to the forums mate, If smooth is what you are after then the only way to get that is with a razor because unfortunately there isn't any electric razors that get that close. Just take your time and if you feel a sneeze, hiccup or anything dangerous coming make sure you get that razor away from your head!

I think that a regular razor works the best. Electric ones I have tried don't get as close as a wet lather razor shave.
