Getting the contours of side/top without razor burn
« on: November 09, 2012, 06:25:15 PM »
I have a problem with the contour between the top of my head and the sides. The grain on the top goes directly forward, but the sides go down and slightly to the back. This means I can't just do a pass and get a large amount of it, I have to some what chip away at it until it's down. I get light razor burn from it and have to try really hard at it,  and I can never manage to get it all the way smooth. Any advice?

Take your time son, all of us have more time than money.  You will get use to it and enjoy all of it !  Then you will come back and be a expert !  Do what works the best for you.  And enjoy !  Watch the pressure on your razor , head, face, etc..

I've been having a bit of a problem ONLY on the back right hand side of my head... don't know why, but I find that I just ahve to keep going over it a couple of extra times from different angles. SO maybe try coming at it from a different angle, instead of just trying to go the same way each time, hopefully that helps, if you do that though, just be careful of blade position and pressure, I've had my razor slip a couple of times in the past doing things like that and it normally ends in a bit of blood if I am not careful

Alright, but I keep going at it, and the skin gets irritated. As I said, I have to chip away at it.

Oh, and the hair at the top of my head is extremely dense. Any advice on getting it close as possible without too much pressure?

My hardest area to shave is the right temple area. What I do is rub some Witch Hazel on the hard to shave areas first before shaving over those areas. Another suggestion is to invest in Shave Secret from WalMart. Rub a couple of drops over the areas where you are having a problem and then shave as normal. Good luck!

My hair grows the same way as yours.  I handle the contours by first shaving front to back (so on top, I'm going against the grain, but when I hit the contour and side, I'm going with the grain).  Then I relather and shave the sides upward at an angle so I'm going against the grain. Finally I lather again and do the curved surface from side to the middle of the scalp.  While it sounds like a lot, the key is not to apply pressure.  This prevents razor burn from the multiple passes.  I get a very smooth shave with this method.

I have to watch over the left ear I am right handed and have learned to use my left recently due to the server fx. of my right wrist, total bummer , doc. said it would take a year to get it back into the game.  But shaving the head and face I have to take my time. and go over it a couple times.

I too find that the area between the top and my left side is hard to get smooth. I usually re do that with y Fusion after lathering it up again outside of the shower. I agree it well worth the time to get it right.

Good advice. I'll try some of these suggestions, as I'm beginning to get some razor burn/ bumps in certain areas after a week and a half of shaving daily.

Do any of you find that giving your head a rest day helps?
