Hi all, pretty new to this
« on: November 05, 2012, 05:56:04 PM »
Hi guys,

Really not sure what to expect here, basically I am a 24 year old, been loosing my hair since I was 19 and it's getting to the point now where I can't really cover it up anymore and thinking of just taking the plunge and shaving it off. I would never really say losing my hair has got me depressed or anything just more of an inconvenience, especially so young. Only thing I am worried about is the transition, I have never shaved my head in any way before and I have ears which stick out a wee but so am a bit worried that it will accentuate these. Just wondering how any other guys handled the transition and what its like?

Thanks

Welcome mate, you've certainly come to the right place  O0

I am 26 and started losing my hair when I was 13/14, I finally "lost it" just over 5 months ago, and let me tell you mate. I felt instant relief, I like you was not really depressed by it, but I was starting to think about it more then I liked, and was living in hats and stuff...

I'm sure your ears don't stick out any where near as far as you think they do. A lot of how we perceive ourselves is all in our head... That and no one is perfect anyway, and that is what makes us unique. I for one have scars all over my head from different reasons, but I think it just adds to the character of it all, that an no one even notices other the me anyway! If they do, then it is a good little conversation piece.

When it comes down to it, now you have the idea in your head, it is going to be there until you take the plunge. There are 2 ways you can go about it:

Firstly, the shock and awe method. Go grab some hair clippers and your favourite razor and cream and just "have at it". Then the deed is done. You'll be rocking the sly look in no time!

Secondly, you can gradually buzz cut it shorter over the next x period of time until you work your way down to going full sly.

The second method is probably less daunting but it really just depends on how you feel, who knows you might start out to buzz it down gradually, then realise you like the look and just finish it off.

If you decide to be bold and just shave it all off, stick with the 30 day rule, that way you give yourself and those around you time to adjust to the new you, the 30 days will also give you time to perfect your shaving routine and technique, because it's a little different.

Whatever you decide though bro, we are here to help you out with any advice you need O0

Welcome.

No worries about ears. Without hair to define them they will be less obvious.

Beardman gave you the options above - I encourage the first. Just do it and experience the "new you" all at once. Either way, people will be surprised - so why not go it all at once.

Of course, there is the middle option -- buzz it down a bit. But once you've done that you're going to be curious, and you'll buzz it down some more. And then you'll be even more curious ... until the point you've shaved it all the way to the skin. And that can all happen in the same day! Just do it.

Glad you're here. Ask questions. There are a lot of guys here to help - and I dare say there's not a situation yet which hasn't already been discussed or experienced by several of us.

Welcome! It is understanding to be nervous when shaving your head for the first time...If you feel you can't go all the way, just do a gradual buzz. Good luck and keep us posted!

you have a good reason to shave your head. I'd say go for it. Cold turkey. You'll wonder why you waited.

I'm bald by choice. No balding reason to shave my head. So i struggled with wondering why people would think.

It's not a big deal. Once it's done, wear it with a big smile. Be proud of the new look. It's a confidence booster. Looks good. Feels good.you won't go back.

Welcome.com looking forward to seeing your bald head.

Welcome to the forum!
The clippers and razor helped with the transition.
Yes, it was unexpected into the public eye, but it's my hair and my decision.

Some excellent advice here.  Personally I would just go for it - you'll be surprised how much confidence you feel about yourself.

Welcome to this forum.

Just take the plunge and give it a try for 30 days in a row, see how it goes...You may be pleasantly surprised at how good you feel and from the positive remarks you get.

Welcome to the SBG forum. I'm afraid to say the hair loss is a one way ticket. It will get worse before it gets worse still.

Consider buzzing your hair ever shorter over several months until you are at no guard. Then shaving your is the next logical step. There's no real difference between no guard buzz and shaved head. It just feels different.

You might be pleasantly surprised by how few react to your new shaved head look. You may even get a few 'suits you' comments to make your day.

As for shaving your head, it does take practice but you will get here. Use this forum for tricks and tips. Just as everyone else has.

Remember, once you shave your head and keep it shaved, you'll look the same every single day. There won't any more days when you notice further hair loss. By shaving your head, you bring that whole depressing story to an abrupt end. An end in which you are the winner with your new look.

Go for it and good luck.
