A not so recent study

A few years ago, not long after I got my first iPhone, my mom told me about a study done by the psychology department at Stanford University in which the majority of respondents admitted to being addicted to their smart phones. Then she asked me if I felt the same way about mine. My answer then, as now, is a resounding YES!! Does anyone else here feel the same way?

My friend , I hate like heck to admit to this. Because I see the younger generation playing with there phones all the time. At least they leave each other alone now LOL. But in answer to your question, Yes. Because I can do so many things with it. When you are bored and having coffee somewhere I don't have to be staring off into space, or looking like a idiot. But I can act like I am checking my stocks which I don't have etc..

Mine, a Motorola Razr Android, is invaluable. All my e-mails come directly to me, I can check weather, etc. Some time back I was in an accident and realized my current insurance card was at home on the desk where it was absolutely useless to me. Quick e-mail to my agent and I had a copy to show the investigating officer and was able to forward it to his e-mail for his records. We get restaurant reservations, directions, keep up with SBG and other social forums, check on bank accounts, calendar all appointments, parties, etc., keep pictures of the family and take them. Wouldn't be without one. I had a company Blackberry before, but the smartphone is the next generation so now the BB sits at the office with calls forwarded to the smartphone and I only have to carry one device. I only wonder in a year or two what the latest and greatest will be like. My wife packs an iPhone and she loves it, but it isn't as useful as the Razr, IMO. I know that there is an issue with apps and security, but I am very careful about what apps I download.

Yup.... Sad to say, but with how things flow today, you need your smartphone 24/7. Mine (Droid Razr) is with me the moment my alarm goes off (phone) up until I lay my head on my pillow for bed.

Due to job related aspects I just bought an iPad mini to learn about Apples IOS, APPs and what not. My first iSomething ever. I hope it was a good idea to invest in that. I was always an Android-User so far.
I'm not so much addicted to my Smartphone. It's cool for some entertainment (music, games, video) every now and then. Some Email stuff. Maps are a good thing. I am sometimes not sure what to think if people are around checking their phones like every 5 minutes for new activity, in Restaurant's during Dinner for instance.

I'm certainly not addicted. In September I killed my old HTC desire, and up until Saturday I was using an old samsung, and didn't really miss my smartphone much, the only thing I ever needed to used was google maps, but I had a mate on hand with his phone to help with that.

I had my fill of technology and the "latest gadgets" during three decades with IBM.
Life now is much simpler and at a less-frenetic pace. I'll go out of my way to have a "face to face" conversation with someone - or strike one up with a stranger.
I generally carry my cell with me as a safeguard in case I should have car trouble. I'm not a slave to it - it can ring, chirp, beep and buzz all it wants. Being with someone is more important than any electronic connection.
One of the places I work recently installed signs on the risers between treads in the staircase - cautioning people to stop texting and watch their step when going up the stairs. In five different languages. I think that says it all.

Had a Girlfriend coming over for a BBQ a couple of weeks ago. She overlooked 3 steps on a stairway while beeing busy checking texts, she fell, broke her arm. It's still not 100% ok yet.

The horrible thing about me and my phone is that I really don't even use it as a phone anymore. I hate when it rings, it agitates me for some reason. I text often and am online lots but rarely talk. But then there are those times where instead of sending 10 texts, I'll just call for a faster response.

I use my iPhone to browse the net, check my workout schedule, record music ideas, set reminders, check PayPal and my bank account, play games, use as a police scanner, check the weather, check my email, stream movies and TV shows, watch YouTube, take pictures and video, keep track of road cycling statistics, use as an alarm clock, use as a GPS, use as a flashlight, check my music schedule on Gmail calendar, send texts, and every now and then
...make and receive calls.
Hi, I'm Bill and I'm addicted to smartphones.
