So, I preserved the head of hair. Maybe that was a bad idea
« on: October 21, 2012, 04:47:28 PM »

I started thinning at about 22. Dad's bald. Grandad's bald. So I bought some Minodoxill cheap off ebay and for the past 10 years I've used about 3x50ml tubes to great success. I've thinned a bit where I didn't have it with me a few times but generally it's really not noticeable. This has been possible since I can actually feel in my skin when it's falling out. It goes in a cycle something like 1 and 3 months and I only apply it if I can feel it needs it, usually air-con or stress related.

Unfortunately I've gained a few wrinkles but that's life. Up until a couple of years ago I seemed to pass for lower 20's. But is that really a good thing? Ever notice a totally hot women with long blond hair only to have her turn around and she's a grandma?

Perhaps I made a mistake here. Perhaps I should have let it happen and started shaving.

I think... bald guys get a bit more respect in the workplace... could I be imagining it?

Then again, the ex complained to me of immaturity and maybe that hit me where it hurt. Shaving it all off isn't going to make people start treating me different and by proxy how I view myself, lest should never listen to a woman scorned anyway.

 What do you reckon?

I'm probably going to cut it all off next week to give it a go. I really can't stand wet shaving (really don't like disposable razors, carrying shaving foam and all that gumpf when travelling all the time on work) so if I got for this it'll be with a 240v detail hair trimmer on zero gauge leaving some stubble... not sure that's a fair test...

Shaving your head will change your appearance and will change how strangers react to you, and it may make you feel more self-confident, but it won't make you more mature because after all, it is a "hairstyle" only.  Guys who struggle with MPB often feel better about themselves after going sly, but we all don't become Nobel laureates or great philosophers just because we're bald.

If you don't want to shave, a zero guard buzz will give you an approximation to being sly.  By the way no guy on this forum would disrespect his head and use a disposable razor unless it was a dire emergency.  Wet shaving with a good razor and technique gives a superb, smooth shave that has to be experienced to be believed. Words don't do it justice.

npsbg's right ... your "new hairstyle" will change how people react to you. That's the opening -- whether it works for or against you depends on how you respond and present yourself.

Funny I read this...
we have bins of disposables in the shop
Im a tattooist and we shave the area of skin on clients were about to work on..
as my electric shaver was burning up, i thought i should just grab some of those grey razors from the saundry  jars at work....
to my better judgment i bought the atx instead
even before i was "sly" I had serious doubts on using the cheap razors...
 glad i did not.
