What's Up from NOLA
« on: October 05, 2012, 07:40:56 AM »
Well, I'm 44 and balding. Have been for several years. Mainly on top and trying to talk myself into shaving my head. Everytime I think I am ready, I find a way to talk myself out of doing it.
It's very frustrating but I keep trying to get the nerve to just do it.

I've been reading several posts on this site for a few days and have looked at the HeadBlade and also a Panasonic electric shaver. Seems like that's what most guys are using these days.

Anyways, great info and enjoy reading all the info on the site.

Eddie

Welcome Eddie.

So, what is holding you back from shaving?

What is the worst that could happen?

What is the best that could happen?

Not sure what's holding me back. I guess it's a maintenance issue, not sure what my dome will look like, not sure if I will like it.
I suppose I could grow it back, at least what little will grow back.
Just trying to talk my self into doing it. Wife says to do it so it should not matter.

Get your wife to do it for you!
Buzz it down nice and short with clippers.  Use a reasonable quality razor with sensitive skin gel.  Rinse the razor frequently.
Do it Friday evening with a bottle of wine to celebrate.   It'll give you time to get used to the look over the weekend.  If you really hate the look then you'll have grown a short fuzz by Monday morning when you get back to work so few people will notice or comment.
My bet is you'll love it and wish you'd done it ages ago.

You're making this way too difficult.

Maintenance? Really? Although the first couple of weeks will likely take longer, it now takes me less than 5 minutes to shave every morning. That's not much different than shampooing, drying and combing hair. And probably far less if you "style" your hair to look presentable. (BTW, "Sly" always looks presentable.)

With your wife in agreement, you've got no reason not to JUST DO IT!

Today's Friday. How about tonight?

You guys make it sound so easy.
I'm sure once I do it I'll like it but it's to take the step.
Maybe tonight. Gonna have to see when i get home.
But when/if I do it, I'll do it on a Friday so I can have the weekend to adjust.

Okay, you're a kid again and you're on the high board at the pool.  It's a little awesome to think that you're going to jump into the deep end.  You probably did jump if you had that experience and survived and did it again, and again and again.
Going sly is very much the same thing--and the thirty days are like jumping in over and over as you get used to the experience.
Face it, what hair has fallen out isn't ever coming back, and more is falling out, clogging the shower drain everyday.  Take control, go slick.  This weekend is a three day weekend for many--Columbus Day on Monday.  Clean it up, move on with life.  We can pretty much assure you your only regret will be waiting so long--that's it!

And, your screen name--is this Crescent City based?

Welcome. You want to do and your wife if ok with it...what are you waiting for.  :D  :) Try it out over the weekend. The maintenance you refer to isn't much and you will become faster at maintaining it over time. I guarantee that you'll wish you did it sooner.... because we all do.
Life has three aspects: Paradox, Humor, and Change.

Paradox: Life is a mystery; don't waste time figuring it out.
Humor: Keep a sense of humor, especially about yourself. It is a strength beyond all measure
Change: Know that nothing stays the same.

Welcome Eddie!

You guys make it sound so easy.

It sounds easy because it's easy; but in order to find it easy you actually have to make the step.
Good luck! Let us know how it went.

Welcome to the forums, Eddie!

Once the deed is done you won't regret it.  I agree with everybody's opinion that a Friday is the best day to do it since you have the whole weekend to get used to the new look.

You'll also be pleasantly surprised at people's reactions and non-reactions.

It's now Saturday in Australia so your weekend is just about to start.  Can't wait to see the pic with the slick head.  No waiting - and your wife is supportive!  Go for it.
