The Reaction was None!
« on: September 23, 2012, 04:21:38 PM »
Today my wife and I met up with another couple we used to work with, but haven't seen in 15 years since they moved a couple states away.  I was fully expecting a reaction to my sly look because the last time we saw each other, I had a full head of dark brown hair and a clean shaven face.  I braced for the inevitable questions.

Well, to my surprise and delight, we spent over four hours talking and catching up on things over lunch and  they never asked about the sly dome!  We exchanged the standard comments about everyone looking good and not having aged, but not a single comment on the bald head and facial fur.  I'm amazed!

It's because the hair doesn't make the man so it was a moot point!!!

You're right!  I probably thought about the difference in my appearance more than they did.

I'm assuming (which usually gets me in trouble) that part of the other couple was a gentleman.  If so, how had he changed ... hair-wise?

His receding hairline had receded very far, to the point where he is completely bald on top!

Perhaps you could keep in touch and gently suggest that the fringe should go!!

Very interesting. Reminds me of the first day in the office with a bald head. Everyone commented on the bow tie, but no one commented on the bald head.

Yesterday, I played piano for a 'vespers' service.  I accompanied a fellow playing trumpet. Had not seen him for several years.  No comment about the hair.  His wife was there. She had not seen my in several years as well. At the end of the service, she comments that when she came in, she had to ask her husband, "Who is that man at the piano? I don't recognize him!".  She remembered me with a full head of hair.  So I told here that I'm BBC.  She did ask a few questions at that time.  I'm OK with that.  I love the smooth feel of the bald head, so I'm going to keep it.

It's surprising how often there isn't any reaction when we're execting a huge one.

This is very true.  I guess we all think we're the center of attention, but in reality, we aren't.  Fence sitters take note!

Thanks for sharing your experience, npsbg.

It just goes to show that it's really not THAT big of a deal. It's a big change to someone's look, sure, but it's not an "endgame" by any means.

Perhaps he said nothing because he knew that it might then bring his hair loss in to question?

Thanks for sharing, npsbg.

I'm always surprised by the non-reaction  by people I I haven't seen in a while.

And those I do get a reaction out of, the next time I see them they're already used to my sly look.
