Solution for the dreaded white scalp
« on: September 19, 2012, 09:46:17 AM »
I love everything about having gone Sly, I mean everything, except for one little factor.  The whiteness coupled with the black growth late after a shave. It does not make my pate look as pleasant as I want it to be.  I remember the first day at the office after I took razor to scalp four months ago during the winter months.  The overly white scalp was the most horrible looking part of my bald leap of faith It looked especially horrible on days when my face goes a bit reddish.   I thought the white scalp would disappear after about two months, albeit during winter, with reasonable sun exposure.  How wrong I was.

Confident that summer will eventually give me the even pate to face tone l so badly want, I was browsing my favourite pharmacy (Dischem) isles when I stumbled upon a small container of “Palmers cocoa butter Formula Natural Bronze Body Lotion”.  I hate to be fake, especially with tans, but out of desperation, I bought the product to try. 50 Millilitres for R12. (Very reasonable.)

As usual, I Googled it. This is supposed to give you a gradual gentle “bronze” tan while providing intensive moisturising with the all time classic “cocoa butter”. Vitamin E is also there for added skin nutrition.

I applied it three times a day for two days in between a head shave. (I probably over did it) Palmers does just what it promises, on day three I had a very natural looking, very slight bronze “fake tan”.  It’s not really a tan, but the dreaded Lilly white parts that I dislike so much are gone.  No streaks, and surprisingly it looks natural (with the potential to go a bit clockwork orange if overdone.)  I now feel more confident in the office under the cold white lights, especially around mid day when the black sandpaper appears against the white scalp.

So, if you are like me and you hate the white scalp look or perhaps you are a newbie to Sly, and this is your biggest hurdle, or your pate is “too white to start” -- then I recommend this product.  Palmers generally have an excellent reputation with their other moisturisers.  Another one which I use with great satisfaction is “Palmers Cocoa Butter, face and body moisturizer for men.”

What do you think?  What did you do to get rid of the white when you first went Sly, besides wait?

Good find, Waine! I say if it works, not unhealthy, doesn't hurt and makes you feel better why not use it.  O0 O0 O0

Dude, I think patience is the answer here. Self-tanners are a quick fix, but they make my fair hair much darker. Your scalp has been covered for a long time, and will tan eventually. Do you see any old bald dudes with white heads? No-one is noticing but you. Head for the beach, put on some sunscreen with a moderate SPF and all will be good. My head is getting there. Slowly.

My first head shave was in January in North America.  So middle of winter.

I've not done anyting for 'color'.  And my natural skin color is pretty light.  Guess it never bothered me or I did not think about it.  I don't remember stressing over a white head. And now it just looks normal.
