Shaved Myself Bald Yesterday
« on: September 17, 2012, 02:16:53 AM »
Hello, My name is Thomas and I shaved myself bald for the first time yesterday morning. I used a twist style DE safety razor. I used generic shave soap and a shaving brush and soap bowl. I also have a DOVO straight razor that I use for my face, and I was curious if anyone has any experience using a straight razor. On my face I very rarely nick myself using the DOVO. I assumed it would be difficult to maneuver it on my head. Using the DE on my head I received many nicks. Is this normal? Should I try the DOVO or is it to risky?
 Thanks,    -Thomas Y.

Welcome Thomas, The dome is looking great, especially with such a good full beard. I have no experience with DE razors on the dome, but I have heard it takes a lot more patience and control. I have also heard that you can't beat a proper, well done DE headshave too. It will take a week or so of continuous shaving to find out if it will work for you. Hope you enjoy the forum!

Thank you all for the warm welcome! So far I enjoy being bald. Until about a month ago my hair was about a foot and a half long, and I just decided to get it buzzed off. I wore it buzzed and I was curious about how I would look bald, and so here I am. I just can't wait for the color to come in up there, lol.

Welcome mate, you look awesome sly! Definitely a keeper, stick to the 30 day rule of shaving every day and you will be hooked for life  O0

PS, Don't try getting too much sun too soon, you don't want to be peeling up there, and make sure you use some sun screen!

Welcome, Thomas! I am too an occasional user of a straight razor on my head, it just depends on how much growth that I have (not an everyday shaver here). I have just started using the DE on my head, but that requires patience and the right razor. If you get a chance, give the HeadBlade a shot...It works well, especially when you have limited time for shaving. The bald/beard combo looks great! Feel free to ask questions and post often!

Welcome!  Talk about a change - to go from long hair to buzz to sly!  It looks good on you.

I've been trying a DE on my head for about a month now.  It's common to get nicks and cuts at first, but with patience and practice, they can be avoided.  It takes longer to shave with a DE since you really need to take your time.  Because the razor's head is fixed, you have to move your wrist to get the blade to the proper angle for a close shave.  And you need a light touch to prevent gouging your scalp.  The result, though, is a remarkably smooth shave that lasts hours longer than anything else I've tried.

My advice: use a DE when you have time to shave; use a cartridge-type razor (Fusion, Mach 3, HeadBlade) if you are limited on time.

Welcome to the SBGs! I've DE'd my head in the past. Like others have said, it can be risky (nicks) but rewarding (very smooth). Take your time when you do DE shave and that should help to cut down on the nicks.

Enjoy the forum.
