2 Vintage Gillette Safety Razor Twist
« on: September 01, 2012, 09:19:48 PM »
what can you tell me about these and whats the difference between them? one has a wider ring then the other near the bottom of the handle that's the only difference I see. Are they worth $15.50 for the set I thought so but I am new to this please give me input. I want to test the water before I drop $75.00 to $100.00 on a good new one.

The good chaps over at Badger and Blade would be able to tell you more, but the look like Flare-tipped Superspeeds to me. $15.50 sounds like a good price to me, but I'm a long way from being an expert.

Okay this is what I found online so far not sure how correct this is. Any help Sirs ?
Top one with the narrow ring looks like a 1958 tv special. Variation of the 50's style Super Speed, was the 1958 TV Special which was released as another promotion for the American television show, "The Gillette Cavalcade of Sports".

bottom one wider ring 50's Style - A richer knurled handle and a flair tip introduced in 1954

$15.00 for both is a really good price.

At that price, they're worth a try.  Since they were made in the 50's, they were probably well crafted and still work.  By the way, $15 is less than a package of Fusion cartridges, so if just one works, you'll still be ahead of the game.

That is what I thought Tom, $18.25 with shipping was the total. I won the bid should be here by the 11th of the month.Looking forward to trying a DE Shave and saving some cash as well.
Now I need to find a good but yet cheap Brush and Soap puck.

EDIT:Well I found what I needed at Target this afternoon my first brush and puck.

They look like two of the many that I lost or misplaced in the late 60's.  If I had only known. :(

The bottom one looks like one of the many ones my Dad use to own. So I am happy I found that one,my inconsiderate  Stupid Sisters haphazardly went thru my Dads belongings after his passing two years ago and made the decisions of what was trash and what was not without my presence. That is a very sore subject I try not to let it get to me.

From the photo I would say it's a good buy...now you need a stand to display your tools.
